Through the New Hanover Community Endowment (The Endowment), UNC Wilmington, Cape Fear Community College, New Hanover County Schools, and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce have united to creatively recruit, train, and retain healthcare workers to live and work in our region.

CFCC EXPANDS HEALTH SCIENCE PROGRAMS

With the opening of the Saklad Health Sciences Center, CFCC is now able to expand its Health Science programs like never before. This state-of-the-art facility—complete with advanced simulation labs, modern classrooms, and cutting-edge medical equipment—positions us to grow high-demand programs such as Nursing, Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene, Surgical Technology, Radiography, Medical Assisting, and Pharmacy Technology. These enhanced resources mean we can welcome more students, provide even greater hands-on training, and ensure our graduates are prepared to meet the region’s healthcare needs well into the future.

Ashlyn Lawson, a Medical Laboratory Technology student at Cape Fear Community College, discovered her passion for laboratory science after working in phlebotomy. Drawn to the science-based, behindthe-scenes work that supports doctors’ decisions, she values the program’s close-knit, supportive environment where classmates help each other succeed. The Wilson Center at CFCC is a premier performing arts venue that brings world-class entertainment to the Cape Fear region while providing invaluable handson experience for students. From working behind the scenes in production and event management to engaging with the community at live performances, students gain real-world skills in a dynamic setting. At the same time, students and the public get to enjoy top-tier concerts, Broadway tours, and cultural events.
