After being ‘ditched’ as part of a hazing ritual, Eline Balfour finds herself abandoned with her pants around her knees, along with her fellow pledges – a necessary step to becoming a member of the UVSV, a Utrecht University student society exclusively for women. Together with her new friend Binkie, she quickly starts to feel at home in her sorority and the nice house she shares with some extremely strongwilled girls and a dog that eats tampons That is, until she meets David, a charming young man struggling with a secret and the high expectations of the prestigious USC, the Utrecht Student Corps. Through him, Eline is exposed to the dark side of fraternity life In a world where status and solidarity go hand in hand with a set of strict unwritten rules, Uf shows what it means to remain true to yourself within a system that doesn't always make it easy.

‘Eline Balfour's life was not perfect, and her surname certainly wasn't, but her earliest memories were. Red boots, hair in two ponytails, always ready to do a cartwheel. Her mother with her arms spread wide. Air that smelled of roses and manure The village in Groningen, for which her parents had once left the big city, was close enough to village Haren and far enough from the mega stables, the loitering youths and the smell of the countryside to be the romantic rural backdrop against which, as a prosperous but free spirit, you could shape your life with good manners ’

‘On 25 March 1938, Majorana was in the port of Palermo waiting for the boat to Naples when he vanished without a trace. Did Majorana jump from the ship in the darkness of night? Did he commit suicide? Did he retire to a monastery? Or was he abducted by the Nazis? It is worth mentioning that he had withdrawn a large sum of money just before his disappearance Did he perhaps leave for South America?’

Am I Not Enough? Peter Henk Steenhuis

IKEA’s top woman’s account of her husband’s triple addiction

‘In Am I Not Enough Liesbeth speaks to every daughter: your worth is never defined by another’s mistakes’ - Esther Perel (Author)

Liesbeth Dillen was once IKEA's golden girl, on the brink of becoming the first female CEO of IKEA Netherlands For decades now, she has given keynote speeches all over the world as a champion of female independence in the workplace. But behind the professional exterior, a whole other Liesbeth once existed –one who believed she was happily married until she discovered that her husband had a triple addiction: alcohol, pornography and prostitutes. Their relationship turned out to be built on a series of cunning lies, humiliation, and manipulation

In Am I Not Enough?, Liesbeth tells her story: how the man of her dreams became the man of her nightmares, how her sense of self-worth and femininity were smashed to pieces, and how she made it out the other side thanks to therapy and the life lessons she learned at IKEA. The question at the heart of this book is: how could a strong female role model in the international business world turn out to be such a completely different person outside of work? But above all, Am I Not Enough? is a story of hope that recounts how one woman rediscovered her confidence, her self-love and her voice

Own Planet First Roxane van Iperen

This is not a climate essay. Those who do not believe that climate change and global warming will have serious consequences within thirty years, do not need to delve into the question of how we can turn the tide. This essay focuses on the question: is our system capable of solving this problem? The democratic constitutional state is seen in the West as the best form to guarantee the wellbeing of citizens, but an answer to the greatest threat of all hardly materializes. How is that possible, and: is there a way to change that within the system?

‘A scathing diagnosis (...) Van Iperen is an infectious thinker and rightly refuses to come up with actual solutions; that is not what an essay is for. That is why this book is also an original addition to the series of recent critiques of populism by, for example, Timothy Snyder and Anne Applebaum.’ - Vrij Nederland

‘Own Planet First is a powerful and urgent essay.’ - NRC
