Private Event DJ Vs Artist. What Is The Difference? Different Types of DJs: When people think about hiring a DJ they probably think that the service is standard across all DJs. But is it? Well the answer is no and I’m going to tell you about one of the most important considerations before hiring a DJ. For the purpose of this blog I am going to separate our beloved DJs into two major categories. Private Event DJs If you were going to hire a DJ for a high school graduation in Vancouver for example you would probably be looking for this first category. I like to call them “Private Event DJs”. You may better know them as wedding DJs, private party DJs, corporate party DJs, school dance DJs and many other names similar to this. The purpose of this kind of DJ is to show up and play what the client has asked for which is often specified in the form a track list sent to the DJ prior to the event. Part of the service that is often provided at these events is song requests which is exactly what it sounds like. You can ask the DJ to play a song right then and there. Now at this point I’m sure some people are reading this thinking to themselves “isn’t this what every DJ does”? Well if you asked yourself this question this post is for you because although a lot of DJs provide these services there is another major category of DJs that exist and the last thing you want to do is book the wrong DJ for your event and on the flip side get booked for the wrong event as a DJ. So, on that note we move onto the second category.
