As The Rocky Horror Picture Show prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary this fall, legendary photographer Mick Rock‘s (1948–2021) long-lost archives are being unveiled in ROCKY HORROR: A Behind the Scenes Look at the Cult Classic (HarperPop; on sale; 256 pages, 4-color throughout, $50; ISBN 9780063385689). This electrifying volume brings together rarely seen photographs and intimate behind-the-scenes moments, offering fans the ultimate visual time capsule of the film that redefined camp, glam, and queerness on screen. Best known as “the man who shot the seventies” through his iconic images of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Queen, Blondie, and Iggy Pop, Rock was the only photographer invited on set of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Director Jim Sharman and writer Richard O’Brien gave him total freedom to roam Bray Studios, where over six weeks he captured Tim Curry’s transformation into the deliciously unhinged Frank-N-Furter, Susan Sarandon’s ingénue wide eyes, and the joyful chaos that would eventually birth a global midnight movie phenomenon.

20 Costume Ideas for LGBTQ+ Couples
by Mat Oliver
Couples' costumes are always in style. That means there are amazing options ideal for the LGBTQ+ community. You could go with traditionally straight couples' picks, but we're here to share some of our favorite queer couples' costumes, from the obvious to the astonishing. Whether you want to recreate an iconic look or go an unexpected way with your LGBTQ+ costume ideas, that's up to you! These costumes are obviously great for Halloween, but we could see some at comic conventions or even Pride.
1. Mario and Luigi Costumes
How did Mario and Luigi become gay icons? We're not sure, but they're a favorite couple's costume for gay men. You can pick classic Nintendo costumes that look like the video game characters or something sexy if that's more your speed. Who's up for a race on Rainbow Road?
2. Velma and Daphne Costumes
Queer-coded characters like Velma have been around for a long time, but pushback from studios kept them from expressing themselves in public media. However, Velma is now canonically lesbian, and we couldn't be happier for her!
You may note that Velma and Daphne are a trendy lesbian couple's costume idea. Sometimes, it feels overdone, but it's hard to deny the classics.
3. Batman and Robin Costumes
Batman and Robin are another common couple's Halloween costume idea for gay men. Their relationship from older Batman comics has led to multiple parodies, including SNL's ambiguously gay duo and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy on SpongeBob SquarePants. The relationship between the characters has continued and even developed, with more modern depictions involving Batman and Nightwing. While this costume is excellent for Halloween, you can also take it for a spin at comic conventions!
4. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy Costumes
Harley Quinn and Joker were a couple, but even Poison Ivy could tell their relationship was toxic! They're a canon couple now, and we're not looking back. If you love wearing sexy Halloween costumes, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are great for Halloween. (And cosplay, too!) However, there's tons of wiggle room here to wear something less sexy if that makes you more comfortable. Where do we even begin with Toy Story's Buzz and Woody? These two go through thick and thin for each other and are honestly relationship goals. They may have initially started as adversaries, but in Toy Story 2, Buzz Lightyear ran off to save Woody without hesitation. Also, remember the falling-with-style sequence from the first movie? It looks more like falling in love!
6. League of Their Own Costumes
Lesbians loving softball is a common stereotype, but we have to admit that it has its merits. The character Dottie Hinson was inspired by Josephine D'Angelo and Dorothy 'Dottie' Kamenshek, two lesbian women who participated in the AAGPBL. (That's the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.) All you need for this costume are two A League of Their Own Rockford Peaches uniforms, and you're ready to play ball this Halloween!
11. Barbie and Barbie Costumes
8. Bert and Ernie Costumes
Bert and Ernie are the cutest couple in Sesame Street, complete with photos of the two of them decorating their apartment. They have been cultural gay icons since the 80s, making this a classic costume idea for gay couples. If you're not fond of wearing masks, you could do without them because even their sweaters are recognizable enough. Or, try using makeup instead to look more like Bert and Ernie!
9. Eevee and Sylveon Costumes
People immediately noticed that Sylveon, one of the many forms of Eevee, has trans colors. (Especially the shiny version!) Also, Eevee has the potential to evolve into any of the Eeveelutions. These Eevee and Sylveon kigurumis are great for trans couples. You will be extra cozy on any chilly Halloween night, and you'll look so cute together!
10. Elphaba and Glinda Costumes
As they say, opposites attract! The Broadway version of Wicked paints the two as best friends, while the novel hints that there could be something more between them. Glinda and Elphaba make an adorable couple, and you will, too, with this lesbian costume idea. Who is the Glinda to your Elphaba?
Barbie doesn't always have to be with Ken! The Barbie movie gave us so many amazing costume ideas to play with that you can both be Barbie for Halloween. We love her rollerblading look, pink jumpsuit, striped swimsuit, pink cowgirl outfit, and more. Barbie has been fighting the patriarchy for years with outfits that let her be an astronaut, businesswoman, and even the president! You'll feel ready to join her with these Barbie costume ideas.
12. Ken and Ken Costumes
You realized that you were "enough" ages ago with your Ken (or Allan) at your side. Not every Ken needs a Barbie! Over the years, Ken and Allan dolls have both been scrutinized by some consumers. However, they make great Halloween costumes for gay couples. You'll look so fabulous together!
13. Astrological Costumes
wear astrological costumes for Halloween! You can take inspiration from your sign, the planet/goddess it's connected to, or even your element. Just get out there and have fun! There's plenty of wiggle room here to
We have another case of silly and serious here with Deadpool and Wolverine. Deadpool has had plenty of team-ups through the years, but some of our favorites include Deadpool and Spider-Man and Deadpool and Wolverine. Could Deadpool and Wolverine be another case in which opposites attract? Maybe. Perhaps we just love watching Ryan Reynolds paired with Hugh Jackman.
We won't discuss how queer-coded the Disney villains are because you probably know that already. (It's not exactly a secret!) However, may we suggest Jafar, Hades, or other Disney villains as costume ideas for gay men? This is one costume idea that's always tons of fun, especially if you
Some Disney villains give off big drag queen energy, so we had to share a couple of our favorites! Ursula and Maleficent are some of our favorite Disney villains, and they even match with their black and purple color schemes. (See, they're meant to be!) You can pick other Disney villains, but who wouldn't want their incredible magical powers?
17. Football Player and Referee
Costumes
Some people enjoy sports because they like to watch impressive displays of athleticism, while others enjoy the silly Super Bowl commercials and guys in tight pants. Everyone's reasons for watching football are valid, as are your reasons for wanting to wear a football couple's costume. This sexy men's tight-end costume is a fun and cheeky way to spend Halloween, and it pairs well with a men's referee costume. If you ask us, this Halloween costume idea is a touchdown!
18. Betty and Veronica Costumes
Like many teenagers, Betty and Veronica are still figuring things out. Their on-again-off-again relationship as they work out their own identities is incredibly relatable for LGBTQ+ youth. They might not have ended up together, but Beronica fans will love to make this Halloween costume idea come to life! All you need are two Riverdale Vixens cheerleader uniforms and a whole lot of school spirit.
19. The Ambiguously Gay Duo Couples
Costumes
We have seen plenty of cute LGBTQ+ costume ideas, but what about something that's on the sillier side? Ace and Gary from SNL are the ambiguously gay duo, a questionable superhero team from a skit in the late 90s. While the skit was initially
controversial on all sides, the pair has been reclaimed as the quirky characters they are. These matching superhero costumes come with everything you need, minus the
wonder why Goose and Maverick are on this list. Just watch the beach volleyball scene, and you'll know why! Top Gun flight suit costumes are easy enough to get for this one, or you could piece together their beach volleyball outfits if you're expecting warm Halloween weather. Don't forget aviator glasses to finish it off!

Miami’s Biggest Halloween Festival
Stranger Treats & Beats Invades Mana Wynwood for 3 Nights of Madness
Halloween weekend in Miami is about to get supernatural. From October 30 through November 1, Mana Wynwood transforms into a dimension where music, art, and mystery collide - a three-night journey called Stranger Treats & Beats. Co-produced by nightlife visionary AJ of Palace Productions and creative partner Trevor Gudger, the festival promises an immersive “Upside Down” experience inspired by Stranger Things — complete with world-class DJs, cinematic production, and a wildly inclusive crowd. We sat down with AJ to talk about what fans can expect from this unmissable
Halloween takeover.
AJ, this is being billed as one of Miami’s biggest Halloween events. What can partygoers expect from the overall experience at Stranger Treats & Beats?
AJ: Stranger Treats & Beats isn’t just another party - it’s a full-blown descent into the Upside Down of Miami nightlife. We’re transforming Mana Wynwood into a multi-sensory world where music, art, and mystery collide. Expect cinematic production, immersive visuals, massive LED walls, interactive installations, and energy that blurs reality. It’s three nights of pure escapism — where you don’t just attend a festival, you step into one.
Can you share who the headlining DJs will be, and tell us about some of the featured talent?
AJ: Each night is stacked with heavyweightsfrom global icons like Roger Sanchez, Valentino Khan,A-Trak, Mark Knight, and JoyRyde to international sensations like 3BallMTY, Harvy Valencia, Felix Cartal, and Gene Farris. We’ve also got powerhouse and emerging talent from Spain, Italy, Mexico, and right here in Miami — artists like Rashad Miraz, Ben Bakson, David Tort, Nikki Valentine, and Amannda. It’s a lineup built to take you on a sonic journey every single night.
Coming from Palace Bar — a South Beach institution known for blending all walks of life — we wanted that same spirit here. This is for everyone who loves music, energy, art, and self-expression. It doesn’t matter who you love or how you move — if you bring good energy, you belong. What are the event hours for each night, and will there be different headliners or programming?
The event is inspired by the Netflix hit Stranger Things. How are you incorporating that theme into the production and visuals?
AJ: We wanted to capture that Stranger Things energy — the nostalgia, the tension, and the mystery — and translate it into a live, electrifying world. We’ve created portals, floating TV towers, eerie red lighting, hanging Demogorgons, and an “Upside Down” lounge experience. Even the bar setups and photo installations tell a story — it’s as if Hawkins itself cracked open in Wynwood. We’re not copying the show — we’re expanding its universe and making it our own Miami story. What type of crowd are you targeting? Will Stranger Treats & Beats be inclusive for both LGBTQ+ and straight audiences?
AJ: Each night runs 6 PM – 5 AM (except Thursday, 8 PM – 3 AM) — and every night tells its own story.
Thursday, Oct. 30: Deep-house and tech grooves with Gene Farris, Saeed Younan, Ben Bakson, and local dj JRNY
AJ: Absolutely. Stranger Treats & Beats is built on inclusivity.
Friday, Oct. 31: The heartbeat of Halloween with Roger Sanchez, JoyRyde, 3BALLMTY, Harvy Valencia, Rashad Miraz, Amannda, and Nikki Valentine.
Saturday, Nov. 1: A grand finale with A-Trak, Mark Knight, Felix Cartal, and Valentino Khan.

You recently launched Palace Productions with the iconic Palace Bar. How does this tie into your vision for Stranger Treats & Beats?
AJ: Palace Productions is the evolution of what we built at Palace Barturning moments into movements. We’ve mastered hospitality, entertainment, and community on Ocean Drive, and now we’re expanding that magic to larger-scale productions. Stranger Treats & Beats is our first flagship, but it’s also the start of a new era of immersive experiences that connect nightlife, art, and storytelling for everyone.
You’re co-producing this with Travis Gudger. What does each of you bring to the table?
event.
Any quotes from the featured DJs about their excitement for the event?
AJ: Travis and I complement each other perfectly. He’s an operational genius — security, permits, logistics — all the things that make a massive event flow. I’m the creative engine — visual direction, artist curation, sponsorships, and storytelling. Together, we make sure every beat, light cue, and activation feels intentional and unforgettable.
There’s buzz about Stranger Treats & Beats pop-ups across Miami. Can you tell us more about those?
AJ: Yes — We’re teasing the festival through “portal pop-ups” across the city. Wynwood Fitness Club will host our final crossover event — a hybrid fitness and DJ session themed around energy and duality. We’re also floating Stranger Treats & Beats ads along the Miami River and Biscayne Bay — literally bringing the Upside Down to the water. Fans who spot them can snap a photo, tag us, and win VIP passes. It’s all about building excitement before the main
Rashad Miraz (Barcelona): “Every set I play is a journey — big-room energy fused with an oriental touch that connects people through rhythm. Expect a high-voltage night where you lose yourself completely in the music.”
Harvy Valencia (Colombia): “Miami’s pulse meets pure madness. Stranger Treats & Beats is house, art, and sweat all in one.”
3BallMTY (Mexico): “We’re blending tribal roots with electronic power to create a Miami moment no one’s seen before. It’s time to flip the Upside Down.”
Miami’s Halloween calendar is always packed. Why should people choose Stranger Treats & Beats?
AJ: Because this isn’t just a party — it’s an affordable production. Stranger Treats & Beats fuses festival-level talent with theatrical storytelling and the spirit of Miami nightlife. You’re not buying a ticket to a club — you’re entering a world where every detail is designed to awaken your senses. We’re building an atmosphere where people don’t just dance — they disappear into something extraordinary.

REST-PAUSE, DROP SETS, AND SUPERSETS
THE TRIPLE THREAT FOR MAXIMUM GAINS
Sometimes, getting stronger and building muscle isn’t about doing more. It’s about training smarter. That’s where advanced intensity techniques like rest-pause, drop sets, and supersets come in. Each one pushes your muscles past their comfort zone in a different way. But knowing when and how to use them can be the difference between next-level gains and plain old burnout. Let’s break it down.
Rest-Pause: Micro Breaks, Mega Growth
What it is: You perform a heavy set close to failure, rest for a few seconds (usually 10–20), and then squeeze out a few more reps with the same weight. Think of it as turning one brutal set into two or three
mini sets.
Why it works: That short rest lets your muscles partially recover—just enough to push through more reps than you could in one go. This technique maximizes muscle fiber recruitment, especially the fast-twitch fibers that drive growth and power.
When to use it:
• Perfect for strength training or hypertrophy phases.
• Use it with compound lifts like squats, bench press, or leg press.
• Best at the end of your heavy sets, not every single set (save your nervous system some mercy).
Pro tip: Try 1 rest-pause set as your finisher for each major muscle group—guaranteed muscle madness.
Leo Harley
Drop Sets: The Burn That Builds
What it is: Perform a set until failure, then immediately drop the weight by 20–30% and keep going… no rest, no mercy. Repeat the drop 2–3 times until your muscles are absolutely fried.
Why it works: Drop sets extend the time under tension and force your muscles to keep contracting even when they’re exhausted. It’s metabolic overload at its finest, the “pump” that triggers serious growth signals.
When to use it:
The Smart Gains Formula
Think of these techniques as spices—powerful when used right, overpowering when overdone. rest-pause for power and progression. drop sets for muscle fullness and definition.
• Use supersets for efficiency and metabolic conditioning.
• Ideal for hypertrophy and definition phases.
• Use on isolation exercises like bicep curls, lateral raises, or leg extensions.
• Save it for the end of your workout to fully deplete the muscle and enhance the blood flow.
Pro tip: Use machines or cables when drop setting. It’s quicker to change the weight and safer than fumbling dumbbells mid-burn.
Supersets: Twice the Work, Half the Time
What it is: Two exercises performed back-to-back with minimal rest. You can target the same muscle group (for pure destruction) or opposing muscle groups (for efficiency and pump).
Why it works: Supersets double your workload and keep your heart rate high, giving you both muscle-building and conditioning gains. They’re perfect for time-crunched workouts and for maximizing training density.
When to use it:
• Great for fat-burning or aesthetic-focused training phases.
• Pair push/pull movements like bench press + rows or curls + tricep pushdowns.
• Can be done throughout your workout, but don’t sacrifice form for speed.
Pro tip: For pure pump, try same-muscle supersets—like chest press + push-ups, or go functional with full-body combos (squats + pull-ups
Rotate them strategically every few weeks to shock your muscles and keep your training fresh.
Final Rep
At the end of the day, real progress isn’t just about lifting heavier. It’s about training with purpose. Rest-pause, drop sets, and supersets are tools to break barriers and ignite new growth, but only if you use them wisely. Master the balance between intensity and recovery, and you’ll transform not just your physique, but your entire training mindset.
So next time you hit the weights, allow yourself the opportunity to push past your limits, but respect your recovery. Train with intent, not ego. When you hit that perfect mix of effort and strategy, the results won’t just show… they’ll speak for themselves.

After growing up in front of the camera, as a child on “Dirty Sexy Money” and then on to more TV work and films like “The Babysitter,” queer actor Bella Thorne has turned her attention to the other side of the lens. She’s just wrapped production on her feature directorial debut, “Color Your Hurt,”
an expansion of an earlier short film, and one she wrote based on the experiences of her lead actor, Jason Parks (making his feature film debut). It’s the story of a young gay man struggling with self-acceptance amidst the hostility of his community, and it all turns quite nightmarish. The supporting cast includes Emmy Award winner Christopher Eccleston (“Jude”), Tammy Blanchard
(“Into the Woods”), Gideon Glick (“Maestro”), Jordan Alexander (“Gossip Girl”), Linus Roache (“Mandy”) and Dylan Baker (“Happiness”). No word yet on distribution or release dates, but this is one to anticipate.
Terence Stamp will appear posthumously in ‘Priscilla 2’
There is, indeed, a sequel in the works for the queer 1994 hit “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,” arriving soon, though 30-plus years later. Stephan Elliott (“Swinging Safari”) is back in the director’s chair, and the leads have also returned with stars Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and, in a development that’s equal parts happy, sad and surprising, Terence Stamp back in place. The legendary actor died earlier this year at age 87, but not before he spent his final months reprising his role as transgender entertainer Bernadette. No word yet on when the finished film will hit theaters, or even what the exact title will be — it’s working name is “Priscila Queen of the Desert 2” — but it’s going to be the perfect opportunity for audience participation, costume opportunities and paying final respects to a true lion of cinema.
Rami Malek goes gay again in ‘The Man I Love’
“Keep The Lights On,”
“Love Is Strange” and “Passages” are just three of filmmaker Ira Sachs’ contributions to queer indie cinema of the past few decades. His latest, “Peter Hujar’s Day,” about the legendary gay photographer, opens in theaters this fall. And he has yet another one in the works; it’s called “The Man I Love” and it stars “Bohemian Rhapsody” Academy Award winner Rami Malek as a gay New Yorker living with AIDS in the 1980s. With a script co-written by Sachs with longtime collaborator Mauricio Zacharias, it will co-star Tom Sturridge (“The Sandman”), Rebecca Hall (“The Prestige”), Luther Ford (“The Crown”) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear”). We hear that the period film — part of a small-scale trend of queer filmmakers looking back to the decade that devastated and galvanized the community — is also a musical (music from whom is currently not known) and that just intrigues us all the more. We’ll be keeping track of this one.
Kenan Thompson is giving ‘Sleepaway Camp’ another stab
What do queer people think of the 1983’s slasher cult film “Sleepaway Camp”? Well, that’s a tough one. Is the story of a bullied teen girl named Angela and the time she spends murdering people at her summer camp a piece of anti-trans exploitation? Or is it powered by queer revenge? Is it something we want to claim or reject? The perspectives are as plentiful as there are people who’ve seen it, the fans and non-fans equally vocal. (There’s even a book on the subject from queer critics BJ and Harmony
Colangelo) And if someone remade it, say someone like “Saturday Night Live” veteran Kenan Thompson, how would that go? We’ll find out soon enough, as Thompson’s production company is behind a remake, one that will allow original writer-director Robert Hiltzik the chance for a reimagined do-over. All details are being kept under wraps for now — no timeline, no cast, no plot — so there’s time to go catch up on the notorious original if you’ve never seen it. Invite some friends over. Be ready to argue over the closing credits.

Miss Coco Peru Brings
"FUCQ this Shit”
To The Sunshine
Cathedral
Performing Arts –
Fri November 7
By: Scott Holland
Miss Coco Peru (aka Clinton Leupp) has been a household name in the LGBTQ+ community for 35 years. She began her career as a downtown favorite in NYC’s cabaret world. Since then, she has spread the word of Coco in her numerous awardwinning one-person shows across the globe as well as appearances on TV and Film. Are you sick of the expression "Two steps forward, one step back?" So is Coco, in fact, she's beyond bitter and bothered, and so, with zero fucqs and sh!ts left to give, she brings to you her aptly titled show, FUCQ THIS SH!T!
With the loss of her mom, Helen, (and Helen's comforting Bronx words of wisdom,) Coco has been left feeling hopeless and tense nowadays in this fucqed up world where we always take steps back, and so, obsessed with pushing forward and reclaiming our innate magical powers, she's inviting you to join her on this
bewitching quest. Through storytelling and song, Coco continues her 35 years tradition of creating an entertaining and heartfelt group therapy session where it's her turn to talk. It's time to GET FUCQED! It was a pleasure to once again sit down with Coco for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
Were you always an entertainer, even as a child, or when did you get the
Yes, I was always an entertainer. I was obsessed with the musical Fiddler on the Roof and apparently had memorized the entire soundtrack by the age of 2. I would act it out for my family and anyone who would watch, so my parents finally took me to see it on Broadway and when it was over I was pouting. My mother asked, “What’s wrong? Didn’t you enjoy the show?” and I answered, “I’ve been doing it all wrong!” I’ve been a perfectionist ever since.

When and how was Coco Peru born?
In late 80’s I was very inspired by the AIDS activism in NYC. I decided I wanted to combine my love of performing with activism and having been shamed for being effeminate my whole life I figured one of the most powerful, radical things I could do at that time was to be an openly gay performer. I know nowadays it may seem that being an openly gay performer and a drag queen is not that big of a deal, but back then there were not the opportunities or even the visibility, so it really was a leap of faith.
How did you come up with the name and were there any other choices?
My first boyfriend was Peruvian, and we went together to visit his country, and I met a very cute boy named Coco who later came out onstage as this glamourous drag queen! I could not believe the transformation, and I learned that he was very famous in Peru. It got me asking, “How could a gay man in drag get famous and be loved and celebrated in such a Catholic, homophobic country (at that time you had to knock on doors to get into the gay clubs), and I decided that there was a power in having the courage to embrace 100 percent of who you are and that human beings are wired to respect that courage. We haven’t talked in 5 years, since right before Covid, what’s been the highlights for you since getting back from Covid?
Well, I have gotten to perform for sold out audiences all around the country and in Great Britain and feeling all that love after being locked away was wonderful. I also took on the role of Dororthy in the Golden Girls Live in San Francisco and that has been a hoot. This will be my third year doing it and it’s moved into the 1600-seat Curran Theatre (where All About Eve was filmed) for the month of December and it sells out! What would be the ultimate place for you to perform in?
Growing up in NY C, Radio City Music Hall was such
an iconic place for me. I loved everything about it, especially the Rockettes. It would be a thrill for me to stand on that stage; however, I know it’s way too big for my show.
Describe Coco in 3 words each?
Change-agent, Whore (for applause), Raconteur. Survivor, Whore (for documentaries), Litter-Picker-Upper! What do you do for fun?
Fun? What’s that? I love being in Spain and sitting on the beach and doing crossword puzzles and reading books. With earplugs!
What can the Fort Lauderdale audience expect from your show: "FUCQ this Shit"?
I hadn’t planned on writing a new show but my dear sister, Varla Jean Merman, and I were on the phone, and she told me that, because of the times we are living in right now, I HAD to write a show for the community. She basically guilted me into writing a new show and I’m so grateful that she did because audiences have been giving me standing ovations and telling me that what I’m saying is exactly what they need to hear right now. This show also honors my mother, and many of my fans in Florida will remember my mother being in the audience at the Sunshine Cathedral so, for that reason, it will be special for me to perform this show there. I worked for six months writing this and learning it, and spent a fortune on music tracks, but when I feel the audience in it with me, it makes the hard work all worth it.
Also, should this be my last show (hint hint) I’m thrilled to be going out with a show that really resonates with the fans. So, get those tickets and let’s GET FUCQED!
