SPRING LAS COLINAS LIGHT CLUB

April-June

The Mandalay Canal continues to glow two years after Las Colinas’ unforgettable 50th Anniversary celebration. The permanent tree lighting installation shines nightly along the Mandalay Canal. On select occasions, the illuminating canopy comes to life with a sound-activated light show.

This past spring, the third season of Las Colinas Light Club attracted new visitors and local partners to the free-to-attend waterside celebration. Guests savored bites from Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and Kleo Restaurant & Pool Garden, sipped on custom cocktails by Venetian Terrace, experienced a European-style gondola ride with Gondola Adventures and danced the night away to live music.

Experience the Mandalay Canal like never before at the fourth installment of Las Colinas Light Club, hosted monthly, September-November. Visit lascolinas.org for more information.

NEIGHBORHOOD EVENTS

This past June, the Las Colinas Association launched a brandnew community event series, Las Colinas Bites & Beats, a Friday evening event that brought food, fun and music directly into Las Colinas neighborhoods.

Neighborhood HOA’s were invited to participate and co-host an event with LCA, creating a block-party atmosphere right at their doorstep. Residents enjoyed food truck offerings, sweet treats, activities and live music, with details thoughtfully curated between the neighborhood community and LCA.

The inaugural partnership event series included The Enclave at Windsor Ridge, Avalon Square, La Villita Condominiums and Hackberry Creek. LCA is excited to continue the series this fall with a new line-up of community partners.

RED BULL FLUGTAG

After a 12-year hiatus, Red Bull Flugtag soared back into Las Colinas on September 13th, drawing more than 25,000 fans to Levy Event Plaza on Lake Carolyn. Spectators enjoyed freestyle jet skis, drumlines and even a jetpack performance between launches. Since its 1992 debut in Vienna, Red Bull Flugtag has spanned 50 countries, and its return to Las Colinas proved that in Texas, even belly flops are bigger.

LCA NEWS AND UPDATES

REMEMBERING HEINZ K. SIMON (1934-2025)

Las Colinas lost a passionate advocate with the passing of Heinz K. Simon on August 3rd at the age of 90. Personally chosen by Las Colinas founder Ben Carpenter to succeed him as president, Simon led the Las Colinas Association from 1997 to 2007, guiding the community’s resurgence as one of the nation’s premier master-planned, mixed-use developments. He later served on the board until 2009, credited with “bringing the luster back” to Las Colinas.

Born in Berlin in 1934, Simon witnessed the hardships of war and postwar Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1954. He and his family moved to Irving in 1973, where he quickly fell in love with the vision of Las Colinas. By 1996, as chairman and CEO of Industrial Properties Corporation, he relocated the company’s headquarters to Las Colinas, frmly establishing both his business and personal roots in the community.

Simon’s leadership extended well beyond the LCA presidency. He organized the Urban Center Task Force Committee, chaired Irving’s Tax Increment Finance District and spearheaded the Las Colinas Parks Foundation. His tireless efforts ensured that Ben Carpenter’s vision remained strong, equipping Las Colinas to thrive well into the 21st century.
