Creating a Future That Is Built on a Strong Foundation
In each issue of the Current magazine, my goal is to use the "President's message" to highlight the importance of the Manatee Chamber's mission, the critical need for business leadership, and the difference that our members' investment makes. This month's issue - in fact, these two facing pages - are a perfect juxtaposition of how our Chamber has been built by the business community over more than 135 years and how our focus is on the future. Several years ago, we began honoring members with an incredible 50 years or more of continuous investment in the Manatee Chamber's mission. The "Golden Member" recognitions shared below demonstrate how we serve a diverse membership and, thanks to many decades of strong business and employer leadership, remain relevant to the needs of an expanding business community in our region.
I am fortunate to have been on our Chamber team for 29 years, and, hands down, our members are incredibly talented, generous, and forward-thinking. Year after year, we accomplish new things while recognizing the rock-solid foundation upon which more opportunities are built.
The call for Chamber member volunteers, shared on the next page, highlights one of our many education and workforce initiatives that seek to create an even stronger pipeline of talent for the future. Our members consistently tell us that their employees are their most important asset and that they require an even more qualified and abundant workforce in order to grow. The Chamber's Big Bank Theory program will engage hundreds of members just like you who will commit to a day (or half-day) to volunteer with us to strengthen the financial literacy skills of our future workforce. Please consider joining us to build brighter futures.
And, on the cover of this month's issue, we feature the leaders of our Manatee Young Professionals (MYP) program. Back when I was still a "young professional", this program was a game-changer for me and my peers. It helped me learn new things, hone my leadership skills, grow my network, and have a stronger voice. I hope that you will encourage every young professional in your organization to join MYP.

Leadership with Vision
The Manatee Young Professionals (MYP) program has been connecting, developing, and empowering young leaders since 1999. In recent years, that mission has gained fresh momentum - with updated programming, stronger Chamber partnerships, and a renewed focus on building longterm community impact.
The MYP Leadership Committee, led in 2025 by Chair Brooke Mailloux, The Keyes Company, guides the program’s direction, taking a big-picture approach to setting priorities, shaping events, and advocating for issues that make Manatee County a place where young professionals want to live, work, and stay. Their leadership ensures MYP remains both innovative and influential.
Encouraging MYP participation, offering new opportunities, and fostering connections for young professionals is one of the Chamber’s key leadership initiatives to attract and retain top talent in the region. To further champion growth and connection, Immediate Past Chair Cassie White, Terry Mortgage Team, introduced new programming such as behind-the-scenes tours and creative networking formats like the Minute Mixer Lunch.
This year’s Young Professional of the Year and 2026 Incoming MYP Chair Kellie Spring, SERVPRO of Bradenton, understands the value of community involvement - a principle instilled by her family. She is excited to build on the momentum created by Brooke, Cassie, and past Chairs, while continuing MYP’s recent growth.
Expanding Opportunities - Champions of MYP
Last year, MYP launched the MYP Mentor Program, pairing young professionals with experienced members for guidance, networking support, and leadership insight. What began as a pilot program has already produced meaningful cross-industry connections, and it’s still in its early stages.
This year’s debut of the Champions of MYP initiative further expands members’ access to mentorship, visibility, and engagement across the Chamber. Through collaboration between MYP sponsors, the Chamber’s Executive Committee, and area business leaders, these champions are opening new doors, encouraging involvement, and providing direct access to leadership - aligning perfectly with the Chamber’s broader leadership initiatives.
For highlights from recent Champions of MYP events, see the photos to the left.

coffee club
We are thankful to partner with the Manatee Chamber and Rosedale Golf & Country Club to host this event.
Peace River Electric Cooperative started in 1940 by local residents who wanted to provide themselves with electricity. At that time, no investor-owned electric utility would serve sparsely populated rural areas since it would reduce their profits. Over 85 years later, our service area is now divided into 9 geographic districts, extending from Ruskin on Florida’s west coast to near Vero Beach on the state’s eastern shore. We service more than 70,000 homes and businesses in central Florida. Peace River Electric Cooperative maintains approximately 4,200 miles of overhead and underground power lines and have offices in Bradenton, Wauchula, and Indian Lakes. We currently have approximately 125 employees.
Peace River Electric Cooperative takes pride in partnering with the Manatee Chamber and giving back through scholarships, charitable donations, and more. Thank you to all who attended Coffee Club. We look forward to continuing our commitment to serving our community.

The Humane Society of Manatee County (HSMC) continues to expand our services to serve animals in need in our community. Our 10,000 sq. ft. Veterinary Clinic offers low cost spay/neuter (free if qualified), wellness, x-rays, state-of-the-art dental procedures and is proud to announce our latest service: dermatology. The goal is to find the root cause of skin issues and treat to eliminate, not just mask, the symptoms. All of these services are offered at low to moderate cost to pet owners.
The Second Chance Adoption Center finds homes for more than 600 dogs and cats annually. Many of these animals have medical conditions that other area shelters are not able to or willing to treat. The dogs and cats in the shelter are cared for until they are adopted, no matter what the time period may be. In addition, more than 1,500 lbs. of food are distributed monthly through our Pet Food Pantry, helping those financially challenged owners with pet food so they do not have to surrender their four-legged family members. We are grateful to our donors, volunteers and grantors, whose support allows us to care for the thousands of owned and homeless dogs and cats that come through our doors every year.
Thank you, Manatee Chamber members, for taking time out of your busy schedules to stop at the Business After Hours event. We love hosting this event to showcase the continued expansion of our HSMC campus made possible by the amazing support of our community. You, the members, are such an important part of this community and we are so proud to be members of the Manatee Chamber.

business after hours
The Turning Points team of staff and volunteers was honored to host the Manatee Chamber’s July Business After Hours. Thank you for spending the evening with us, exploring our campus, and learning more about our mission. Your thoughtful questions and encouraging words meant a lot—and we hope it’s just the beginning of a deeper partnership.
Your presence reminded us that this work doesn’t happen in isolation. Every shower, medical visit, or moment of relief we provide is made possible by a community that believes in second chances, stability, and dignity. When local businesses like yours engage with our mission, families facing crisis find support they never knew existed— and often, a path forward they didn’t think was possible.
Contact Margi Dawson at mdawson@tpmanatee.org to RSVP or schedule a private tour. We’d love to see you again.
If you're interested in volunteering or setting up a donation drive please contact Carolyn at cnielsen@tpmanatee.org.
