Travis Tompkins | Freshman Cornerbacks Coach

FRESHMAN FOOTBALL COACHES

R.E. Packham | Freshman Running Backs Coach

Rush Everett Packham, known by most as R.E., was introduced to the world of sports by his father—a lifelong role model and the inspiration behind R.E.’s deep passion for athletics. Baseball remains his favorite sport, but it’s the life lessons learned through all sports that continue to shape his character today.

Originally from Chicago, R.E. attended an all-boys boarding school in Buffalo, South Wales, NY, before earning a degree in Sports Management from the College of Mount Saint Joseph (now Mount Saint Joseph University). After several years back in Chicago and later Cincinnati, R.E. found a deep appreciation for Cincinnati’s vibrant sports culture, which ultimately drew him back to the city.

While job hunting, R.E. submitted applications to schools across the city. Archbishop Moeller High School wasn’t initially on his list—but after regularly passing by the school, he decided to apply. To his surprise, Moeller was the only school that responded. That opportunity led to a position with the football team’s film crew, which eventually opened the door to coaching.

R.E. began his coaching career in 2019 at Saint Bernard Elmwood Place High School, working with the freshman football team and varsity girls’ basketball team. He went on to coach lacrosse at Cincinnati Country Day in 2020 and Thomas More University in 2021. He is now entering his fifth season with the Archbishop Moeller football program, having coached both running backs and linebackers during his tenure.

Though football came into his life later than most, R.E. developed a deep love and respect for the game. Guided by experienced coaches and mentors, he’s committed to passing that knowledge to the next generation. He often says he’s “married to the game,” and that passion shows in his work with student-athletes.

Being part of Moeller has profoundly impacted R.E., helping him grow personally and professionally. He credits the school with teaching him what it means to be a “Man of Moeller”— on and off the field. For R.E., coaching isn’t just about football; it’s about mentorship, leadership, and giving back.

He often reflects on the importance of sharing life lessons with younger generations so they can avoid the mistakes he made. In his own words, “Moeller saved my life, and I would do anything to defend her beauty.”

FRESHMAN FOOTBALL COACHES

Jonathan Washington | Freshman Tight Ends Coach

Jonathan Washington enters his 3rd year with Moeller football, acting as the freshman tight ends coach. Washington is a 2019 graduate of Lakota East High School, where he played football for the Thunderhawks.

While at Moeller, he was rewarded as an all-conference running back and holds 2 Moeller records in kick returns. While playing lacrosse at Moeller, he was on varsity all 4 years and was rewarded as an all-region midfielder. After graduating from Moeller, he received a scholarship to play football and study finance at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. Weeder is the running backs coach for the freshman football team while he works to finish his degree at the University of Cincinnati.

Over the past 32 years, he has had 391 golfers pass through the JV golf program while compiling a dual match record of 504-149 and numerous tournament championships. Coach Roth has also been the Head Freshman Baseball Coach at Moeller for 35 years, coaching 842 players over those years. His Freshman Baseball teams have had an overall record of 682-128 which includes 28 GCL Freshman Championships. He has coached baseball at a variety of levels, from tee -ball to collegiate ball, with 11 years coaching at the University of Cincinnati.

Ron was honored in 2006 by the Hamilton County Sports Hall of Fame for his involvement in over 4500 sporting events in the Greater Cincinnati area. In 2012 he was inducted into the Moeller High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Ron has been hired by Major League Baseball for the past 46 years to serve as an Official Scorer for the Cincinnati Reds. In 2010, he was appointed by Major League Baseball to serve on the Advisory Committee for Official Scorers. He has been a licensed real estate broker with Irwin I. Roth, Inc. for the past 58 years.

Ron lives with his wife, Anne, of 55 years. The couple has two children, Julie and Alan, and are blessed with three wonderful grandchildren, Jake (21), who is a senior at Lehigh University and playing on their golf team, Hailey (19) a sophomore attending Miami University, and Alyssa (18) a freshman at Indiana University.

Nick Tenhundfeld ‘10 | JV Assistant Coach

This is Nick’s 10th season as Ron Roth’s assistant for the JV Golf team. A Moeller golfer from 2006-2009, Tenhundfeld played two years for Ron on the JV team and two years for Rick Bohne, whose assistant at the time was former Moeller varsity head coach, Dan Dunlap. Nick was a senior captain. During his time in the program, Moeller won three GCL championships and finished top six in the state both junior and senior year. He continued playing golf at UC on the club team and was part of the team when they finished third in the nation his senior year.

Nick lives in Loveland with his wife Sarah, daughters Palmer and Reese, and dogs Stella and Chloe. Outside of coaching, Nick likes to play golf, work in the yard, and BBQ. He owns an insurance agency located in Lebanon, Ohio. Next to his wife and family, Moeller played a big role in shaping the person he is today. It’s his goal to pass down the Moeller tradition of strong morals and family values to the future generations of Moeller student athletes.

The Marianist Society recognizes the commitment and support of Moeller’s most generous and mission-minded investors. Members take a leadership role by making a minimum annual donation of $1,000 or more during one fiscal year, July 1-June 30. History of Moeller/Mount Notre Dame Band

Celebrating its eighth year, the Moeller/Mount Notre Dame Band & Guard is an official partnership between the two schools to create a high-performing musical ensemble.

The band has seen growing success both on the field and in concert hall venues. They have received gold medal ratings through Heritage Music Festivals and have been invited to perform at prestigious performance venues including the Chicago Symphony Hall. This year’s marching show Motown showcases the band and guards’ versatility and dedication toward the pursuit of excellence and will precede a concert season filled with high quality selections performed both at Moeller’s brand-new Paul E. Flaig Performing Arts Center as well as Mount Notre Dame’s Performing Arts Center.

We invite everyone to come out and support our growing musicians at all of our performances throughout the year.

Ms. Taryn Rupp and the Moeller/Mount Notre Dame Band & Guard are grateful to both administrations for their continued support in growing this partnership. The band hopes to continue setting the bar for musical excellence and surprising audiences with amazing performances for years to come.

CHEERLEADING STATS

Moeller Cheerleading History of Moeller Cheerleading

Did you know the Moeller Cheerleading program was originally founded by the wife of the legendary football coach Gerry Faust? Gerry Faust served as Moeller’s football coach from 1962 to 1980 so it’s reasonable to infer that the cheer program likely began sometime during the 1960s or 1970s. Over the decades, the program has grown under the leadership of many dedicated coaches and is now recognized as one of the top cheerleading programs in the state of Ohio.

Moeller cheerleaders—who proudly represent Mount Notre Dame, Ursuline, St. Ursula, and Mercy McAuley—have affectionately earned the nickname “Women of Moeller.” These talented athletes have cheered on the sidelines of numerous Moeller state championship runs in both football and basketball.

The program has expanded to include Varsity, Junior Varsity, and a Competition Team, with athletes continuously raising the bar by incorporating elite tumbling, advanced stunts, and dynamic dance into their cheer routines. Over the years, the teams have earned numerous awards at camps and competitions, and many of our athletes have been named All-American cheerleaders.

Several Moeller cheer alumnae have continued their cheer careers at the collegiate level, including schools such as NKU, Miami University, Purdue, the University of Dayton, and more.

Each summer, the team hosts the popular Mini Moe Cheer Camp, along with Prospect Days and Open Gyms for 7th and 8th grade students interested in joining the program. This year, the program reached a record-high number of tryout participants, reflecting the growing excitement and excellence surrounding Moeller Cheer.

Above all, the cheerleaders take great pride in representing Moeller High School—bringing spirit, love, and respect to every game, tailgate, community event, championship and performance as part of the Crusader family.
