Assemblyman Durso And Island Harvest Host 4th Annual Assembly ‘Assemble Day’ During Hunger

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso recently partnered with Island Harvest Food Bank in Melville for their 4th Annual Assembly ‘Assemble Day’.

Assemblyman Durso was joined by a bipartisan team of Long Island Assembly members to pack boxes with nutritious food that will be delivered to lowincome senior citizens throughout Long Island.

“For the past few years, I have had the privilege of partnering with Island Harvest Food Bank to host Assembly ‘Assemble Day,’ where my colleagues and I get to work filling boxes with food to feed seniors in need,” said Assemblyman Durso. “This year, our event happened to fall on Hunger Action Day, a national day of action held annually during September as part of Hunger Action Month to raise awareness and provide nutritious food to neighbors facing hunger. This is one of the many reasons why I was proud to present Island Harvest with a $50,000 grant to assist with their amazing work. Thank you to my colleagues, all the volunteers, Randi Shubin Dresner, president & CEO of Island Harvest, and the entire Island Harvest team for all you do.”

Town Board Joins Lions Clubs In Celebrating Annual Picnic

The Town of Babylon Board joined members of the Lions Club at their annual picnic at Belmont Lake State Park, celebrating another successful year of service to local communities. The event brought together members of the North Babylon, Babylon, West Babylon, Wheatley Heights, and Bay Shore Lions Clubs in a day filled with fellowship, community spirit, and recognition of the work these organizations continue to do throughout the year.

Councilman Terence McSweeney, who is also a member of the Lions Club, expressed his gratitude

for the opportunity to participate.

“It is an honor to not only be a member of such a great organization, but also to celebrate and be in the presence of so many dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to make our communities stronger,” McSweeney said.

Lions Club District

Vice President Diane DeLuca also spoke about the importance of the gathering. “The annual picnic is more than just a celebration — it’s a reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together in service. Our clubs remain committed to supporting families, strengthening

neighborhoods, and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most,” DeLuca said.

The Lions Clubs have long been a cornerstone of community service, supporting charitable initiatives, assisting families in need, and strengthening neighborhoods through their programs and outreach.

Town officials praised the Lions Clubs for their continued dedication and commitment to service, thanking members for the positive impact they bring to communities across the Town of Babylon.

West Babylon Public Library Showcases Work Of JHS Student-Artists

West Babylon Junior High School has an ongoing collaboration with the West Babylon Public Library to display K-12 artwork throughout the school year in the

children’s section of the library.

The current exhibit features sixth and eighth grade artwork on display in July and August. Ms. Alfano’s eighth grade

classes created flower portraits using colored pencils. Students applied their understanding of primary, secondary and tertiary colors, along with tints and shades.

Students were limited by the use of only primary colors along with black and white to develop their work, pushing their understanding of color theory.

The sixth grade students created animal zentangles using micron pen and watercolor pencils. Students chose an animal that represented them and used a variety of

techniques using micron pens and watercolor to create unique pieces with a likeness of their animal. Students learned about mindfulness through zentangle techniques.

Artwork of sixth and eighth graders from West Babylon Junior High School is currently on display in the West Babylon Public Library children’s section. Photos courtesy of West Babylon School District

October is almost here, and I’m ready to enjoy everything that makes fall on Long Island so special. Here’s my personal checklist for the season.

• Comfortable Sweaters and Knit Hats – To keep me warm on the days I walk to my office on Montauk Highway.

• Fall Decorations – Pumpkins, pinecones, and all my favorite Halloween items.

• Apple Cider & Cinnamon Donuts – because fall tastes as good as it looks.

• Morning Trips to My Gym – Because of the cider and donuts.

• A Weekend Trip to a farm stand – to pick pumpkins and mums for my porch.

• Helping Home Buyers and Sellers - Just as the seasons change, sometimes our homes do too.

Whether you’re buying, selling, or simply curious about your home options, give me a call or stop by my office. I’m happy to help you anyway I can.
