Financial Literacy Presentation (FYE)

InanticipationofthefinancialliteracypresentationandbeforeourZoomclass,studentsweretoread theirassignedtextbookchapteronunderstandingfinancialliteracy,andthenthinkofpotential questionstoaskofthepresenter.OurpresenterwasEdwardJonesfinancialadvisorChristine Pelletier.Ms.Pelletierdiscussedtheimportanceofgoodcredit,analyzingandrecognizingcreditscores andtheirconsequences,howtopaydowndebtmoreefficiently,positivewaystosavemoneyand invest, aswellashowtobeginbudgeting.Studentsaskedappropriatequestionsonthebestwaytostart saving,thedifferencesbetweenthe“snowball”methodandthe“50/30/20Rule,”andaboutthebest payforeducationcosts.Afterreadingthechapter,watchingthepresentation,andaskingquestions, studentswereassignedreflectionquestionsforhomework.

The Food Project

Forthisexperientiallearningactivity(servicelearning,optional),studentswereallowedtotradeoneoftheweeklywriting assignmentsbyparticipatinginServiceLearningwithTheFoodProject.StudentsmetonaSaturdaymorningatTheFoodProjectin Lynn,wheretheyhelpedharvestremainingproduceandpreparebedsforwinter.Afterparticipatinginthephysicalwork,theywere responsibleforproducingawrittenreflectionontheirexperiences,pluscreatinganinformationalbrochureaboutTheFoodProject andsustainableandaccessiblefreshproduce.Theysharedtheirexperiencesandbrochureswiththeirclassmateslaterinthesemester.

● Fosteraninclusive,proactive,andempoweredculture,whichrespectsallindividuals,groups,culturalbackgrounds,and diversepointsofview, andbecomemorecivicallyengagedonlocal,regional,andgloballevels.
