Máire Godfrey
Approaching her 100th birthday, Máire Godfrey decided to compile her bucket list. With the gentle nudging of her granddaughter, she started a Facebook page, Mamó’s Hundredth Year, where her year of discoveries has been documented.
Her husband Jim had died just before his 99th birthday. The couple had been avid golfers, and meeting golfer Pádraig Harrington was top of her bucket list.
She had avoided ever setting foot in a courtroom, so a trip the local courts was a must see. “I was brought into all the sanctums where even a solicitor couldn’t go,” she recalls. “It was brilliant. I sat in the dock and the judge’s seat.” The Chief Justice heard about her visit and presented her with a framed photograph of the courts.
She also saw her first 3D movie: “It felt like it was coming in on top of me. It was terrific.”
There were two unexpected surprises for Máire. When Facebook heard news of her bucket list, she was invited to its Dublin headquarters. She also accidentally turned up on a television program: the series The Unemployables was being filmed while she was shopping at a fair, and she unknowingly became an extra on the show. Needless to say, she was thrilled.
And as if that wasn’t enough, she even wrote a book about her life.
Zach Parnaby, a 22-month-old boy who was born healthy, was diagnosed with Krabbe Leukodystrophy. His family worked to cross items off his bucket list as he battled the terminal genetic disease that doctors say would rob him of his ability to walk, see, hear, and speak.
Zach’s list included meeting Mickey Mouse, swimming in the sea, building a snowman, riding a fire engine, meeting Santa, seeing a real bear, having his own dog, and a few other things.
The family has already crossed off several items on the list and is chronicling their journey on his fundraising page. Zach went on a boat trip and took a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine. He also met several Newcastle United players.
Zach’s parents, Lindsey and Ben, also want to raise awareness about his disease. They not only hope to find a cure, but would like the disease to be routinely screened at birth.
Along with a night of blackjack in Vegas, visiting Niagara Falls, and taking in a kickboxing match in Thailand, being in the driver’s seat of a high-end sports car was something Jason Gordon had on his bucket list. Jason had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in April 2015.
Richie Hughes, owner of Toronto-based VIP Exotic Car Rentals, rents out the Lamborghini for as much as $1,400 per day. He heard about Jason’s situation through mutual friends, and surprised him with a $300,000 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and set of instructions: Take the car, have a blast, bring it back when you’re done – no charge.
104-year-old Anne Brokenbrow, who has never fallen foul of the law, cheekily grinned as officers “detained” her inside a care home and bundled her into a waiting police car.
As part of a charity scheme where residents write down what they want most at Stokeleigh Care Home in Bristol, Anne wrote: “I have never been on the wrong side of the law. My wish is... to be arrested.”
Anne was put in handcuffs by PC Stephen Harding and his colleague PCSO Kelly Foyle before being taken for a drive by the officers.
PCSO Kelly Foyle said: “My colleague arrested her, and as far as I know she’s the oldest person he’s arrested... She was smiling, she had a lovely time.
“This all started when I received an email for the charity. We’re part of the neighbourhood policing team, this is our beat, this is the most unusual request we’ve ever had certainly. I got the email and I thought: ‘Wow, what an amazing thing to wish for.’
The care home described the day as “magical”, writing on Facebook: “Anne got her wish to be arrested at the grand young age of 104 for being a good citizen!! It’s something that she has always wanted to experience.”
Anne reported: “Nothing like that ever happened to me before. They put the handcuffs on, I had the lot. What did it feel like being a criminal? Well, it will make me much more careful of what I say and do. But the police were very nice throughout. I had a lovely day.”

You are here
At the start of a moment
On the edge of the world
Where the river meets the sea
On an island in between there and here...
The above lyrics are from our electrifying end-of-year musical, and sums up Pangdemonium’s eclectic 2026 Season.
FORCE MAJEURE, A MIRROR and COME FROM AWAY — three thrilling theatrical tales that challenge us to ask tough questions...
How much of ourselves do we dare to recognise in these stories? Could this happen here?
Or only “somewhere else”? Would we do this?
Or just “other people”? A series of ass-kicking adventures in theatre, showcasing human nature at our best and worst, and everything in between: from our compassion and capacity for love, to our frailties and f*cked-upness.
So get ready as Pangdemonium takes you from here...
...and remember, it’s everything in between that’s the real adventure.
