As we welcome the fall and winter seasons here in Pensacola, I am excited to share the latest edition of our Parks and Recreation Playbook. Whether you’re lacing up your shoes for a brisk walk, signing your kids up for youth sports, or enjoying the holiday festivities that make this time of year so special, there is something for everyone in this guide.
This year has been especially energizing as we continue to move forward with our “Direction ’25: Pensacola Parks Revitalization” initiative, focused on creating a more connected, vibrant, and inclusive Pensacola. You’re seeing the impact of these improvements in our parks and recreation facilities across the city. We continue to add enhanced playgrounds and athletic fields to trail and green space upgrades that make it easier than ever to enjoy the outdoors. These investments reflect our commitment to building a city that serves families today and inspires future generations.
I’m proud of the work our Parks and Recreation Department is doing to strengthen the sense of community that makes Pensacola so unique. As you look through this Playbook, I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities it highlights — try something new, connect with your neighbors, and appreciate the beauty of our city in every season.
Thank you for continuing to make Pensacola a place where we can all play, grow, and thrive together.
Sincerely,
Mayor D.C. Reeves

Written by Jeremy Street, Senior Programming Coordinator
Every day across Pensacola, life’s most fulfilling chapters are being celebrated. This is especially true for Seniors. Through a specially curated slate of programs, adults over 50 are discovering new passions, forming lasting friendships, and experiencing the benefits of staying active in mind, body, and spirit. Whether it is stretching before chair exercise at Gull Point, singing along to a classic rock song at Bayview, yelling bingo at Fricker, or learning something new from a guest speaker at Cobb, each moment is designed to inspire and uplift.
The dedicated Parks and Recreation team believes that every stage of life offers opportunities for growth and
connection. Our senior programs, open to ages 50 and better, are more than just activities. They are experiences that nurture the whole person. Here, you’ll find a welcoming community where everyone’s story matters and every person is valued.
We believe that mental wellness flourishes when curiosity is sparked and creativity is encouraged. That’s why our programs include a variety of classes and activities designed to engage your intellect, memory, and imagination. From arts and crafting sessions that

promote self-expression, to discussion groups that dive into fascinating topics, our programs help keep minds sharp and spirits lifted. Lifelong learning is a gift, and we love seeing participants’ eyes light up when they try something new or share their own expertise with others. These moments of discovery create confidence, boost mood, and open the door to fresh possibilities.
Who says that an experienced dog can’t learn new tricks? Certainly not us.
We also believe that a body in motion stays in motion. Physical health is the foundation of vitality, and our senior programs meet a wide range of abilities and interests. Whether you prefer a gentle, low-impact class or something to really get the blood flowing, we make movement enjoyable and rewarding. Our fitness offerings include chair aerobics, balance and stability workshops, dance sessions, Tai Chi, and more. Each activity is guided by experienced instructors who create an encouraging atmosphere that supports every participant at their own pace.
the workouts themselves. When you’re surrounded by friends cheering you on, every step feels lighter.
"Our programs are open, inclusive, and created with your wellbeing in mind."
Many participants notice the benefits quickly. Some feedback that we routinely hear includes more energy, improved mobility, and the satisfaction of accomplishing personal goals. The camaraderie in our fitness classes is just as motivating as
Social connection truly adds value to every wellness journey. Friendship is one of the most important contributors to happiness, and our programs make it easy to meet new people who share your interests. Community-building is woven into everything we do. From festive holiday events to weekly game days, group outings and jam sessions, there’s always a reason to gather. A warm smile at the start of class, a shared laugh over a card game, or the comfort of knowing someone is happy to see you, are all simple moments that create a sense of belonging. These special moments happen every day in our programs.
At the heart of our senior programs is the belief that recreation is about more than passing time. It’s about living fully. Laughter echoes through our activity rooms, music fills the air at special events, and the spirit of adventure is alive in every outing. If you’ve been thinking about adding more joy, movement, and connection to your life, the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department is ready to welcome you. Our programs are open, inclusive, and created with your wellbeing in mind. It’s never too early, or too late, to invest in yourself. We invite you to visit one of our resource centers, explore our program calendar, and take that first step toward a more vibrant you. Every class, event, and gathering is an opportunity to create memories, strengthen your health, and build bonds that last a lifetime.
We can’t wait to see you!
