DAVID BEAUMONT

This body of work ventures into the Coorong amongst other meanderings. I was fortunate enough to have ‘poked’ around this area camping from the Hooded Plover campsite to the Murray River mouth where the fresh water meets the Southern Ocean.
I was drawn, yet again to the sublime beauty of this region which has something of Swan Bay and Lake Tyrrell in its DNA.
Dusk around the isthmus was special - blues and greens playing off each other alongside the etched, linear shoreline trails.
Curiously, whilst painting these works, I began to realise that I hadn’t yet let go of the Mallee region. Hence the meandering component of the exhibition.
The ever-present traits in this topography affirmed my commitment to colour, line, the paint surface and pictorial space, of these sublime landscapes.
footnote: the landscapes that seek me out are charged with a quiet beauty and humility. The stuff of nuance, contemplation and light. There is a deep strength in them, but they are not loud.
