Wehavebeenbacktobeingbusyagainwith13calls forthefortnight–fivefalsealarms,fourmotorvehicle crashes,twoofwhichrequiredextricationwithrescue equipment.Therewerefourmedicalassistswithmixed feelings–threeresultedinpatientssuccessfullybeing transferredtoambulancealive,butsadlyonewasfatal.
Thisisanunusualstatisticforus,asaround90%ofthe time,medicalcallsdonotresultinasuccessfuloutcome.
Onalighternote,weheldourannualhonoursnight onSeptember27torecogniseourmembers’serviceand commitmenttothisamazingcommunity.
Wemadespecialpresentationsofthankstosomekey supportersofourbrigadethroughout2024-2025:
Metalcohasregularlybeenabletoprovidecarsforusto cutupforpractice,whichisdifficultnowthatitnolonger hastheminTePuke.Whenweneedcars,theytruckthem fromotherpartsofthecountry.
SouthernCrossHorticulturehasprovidedgenerous sponsorshipofourrecentlyintroducedcadetprogramme. Itsfundinghasenabledustoprovideuniformand protectiveclothing,undertakeaStJohnfirstaidcertificate andseveralfieldtrips,includingtotheNationalTraining CentreinRotorua.Thecadetprogrammeisalready wellreceivedandwecouldnothavedoneitwithoutthe supportofSouthernCrossHort.
WiththehelpofBaygold,wehadtheopportunityto upgradeourvanlastyear.However,thebrigadehadsunk mostofouravailableresourcesandeffortsintoourshed project.Baygoldcametotherescuewithagenerouscash sponsorshiptoenableustopurchasethevan,whichisa vastimprovementontheoldone.
