As we head into late October, it’s hard to believe how quickly this year has gone by. The leaves are changing, the days are getting shorter and our community calendar is still full—proof that Livingston never slows down.
Fall is always a great time to take stock of what makes our town so special. I’m reminded every day how much pride and effort go into keeping Livingston a place we’re all proud to call home. From our township employees who work tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly to our volunteer boards, first responders and countless residents who pitch in — it’s truly a team effort.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen that spirit on full display — at our local events, on our fields and courts, and throughout our neighborhoods. Thank you to everyone who gives their time, energy and ideas to help make Livingston better every day.
As we move toward the holiday season, let’s keep that sense of community strong. Support our local businesses, check in on a neighbor and take a moment to appreciate what we have here.
It continues to be an honor to serve as your Mayor and I look forward to everything we’ll accomplish together in the months ahead.
Thank you,
Ed Meinhardt Mayor, Township

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Assists Families in Need
BY MICHELLE LEMIEUX
AA sudden job loss, death, or even an unusually high water bill can throw families into a tailspin. Making ends meet on a good day can be difficult enough without the sudden impact of distress. What happens when the safety net is gone? That’s where Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors comes in.
Founded in 2016, Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors (LNHN) is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-led non-profit organization and an affiliate of Livingston’s Healthy Community, Healthy Youth, formed to support those in the community experiencing unexpected, economic hardship. LNHN provides short-term, emergency financial assistance and varieties of in-kind support including meal donations, fresh produce, non-perishables, and grocery store gift cards to residents in need.
“Since our inception, we’ve provided assistance to more than 100 families and nearly half continue to benefit from our services,” said Stacey Rubinstein, President of LNHN.
Individuals in need are screened through LNHN’’s partnership with Livingston Township’s social worker, who assesses requests to ensure dollars and in-kind support are used appropriately, while also providing beneficial resources that may be available to them.
“One of our most important goals is to make sure our clients feel safe, as well a sense of independence as they navigate the situations they’ve encountered,” Rubinstein says.
LNHN runs the town’s food pantry, providing families with the essentials they need to help ease the burden. Anything unexpired is accepted and welcomed, from children’s snacks, to paper towels; detergent to pasta; and canned fruits and vegetables. Pantry items can be dropped at locations throughout Livingston, including a 24/7 donation bin at Livingston’s Police Headquarters.
In addition to these initiatives, LNHN provides service opportunities such as cooking for families, organizing food drives, making sandwiches, and collecting grocery gift cards. It also donates holiday meals and gifts throughout the year.
LNHN relies solely on donations from the community to carry out its mission. To learn more, start a drive or make a donation, contact them at lnhn07039@gmail.com.

Clearer Sight Ahead with Maison De Vision
BY MELISSA RADIN
KKids’ eyes grow fast—what was perfect vision last year may need adjustment today. At Maison De Vision in Livingston, NJ, Dr. Anuradha Rana, OD, a therapeutic optometrist, understands how vision changes from childhood through adulthood—and how early detection sets the stage for a lifetime of clear sight.
From infancy through the school years, children’s eyes develop quickly, and conditions like nearsightedness,
farsightedness, or astigmatism often appear early. Without proper care, vision problems can affect learning, sports, and confidence. Warning signs include squinting, covering one eye, headaches, holding books too close, or avoiding reading.
Today’s digital lifestyle has created new vision risks for kids. More time on tablets and phones—and less time outdoors— has led to a sharp rise in myopia (nearsightedness). Progressive myopia can increase the risk of maculopathy, retinal detachment, and glaucoma. The FDA recently approved myopia control spectacle lenses for children, and Maison De Vision will carry them as soon as they become available—an exciting advance in protecting young eyes.
Their dispensary features durable, stylish children’s frames designed for comfort, safety, and confidence—because great vision should look great too.
Maison De Vision’s comprehensive pediatric exams check clarity, alignment, focusing, and tracking to detect issues such as lazy eye or eye turn before they interfere with daily life. Parents can help by scheduling annual eye exams, encouraging outdoor play, limiting screen time, ensuring good lighting, and supporting eye health with a balanced diet.
Don’t wait for squints or headaches to signal a problem. With expert care and a personal touch, your child’s vision—and confidence—will shine bright!

Golden Opportunities Shine Bright at Walter Bauman Jewelers
BY MICHELLE LEMIEUX, PHOTOS BY DAN EPSTEIN
GGold is on fire! Prices have hit record highs and Walter Bauman Jewelers offers the most competitive buying prices in the industry.
The family-owned jewelry business, with its flagship store located in West Orange, has been serving customers since the 1960s. Providing the highest-quality merchandise, Walter Bauman Jewelers strives to be “your personal jeweler.” Whether looking for a gift, a repair, estate jewelry, or to sell jewelry, the knowledge and courtesy offered at Walter Bauman Jewelers is incomparable.
Co-owner Walter Bauman, who runs the store with his brother Russell, calls this one of the most exciting times, with gold buyback prices soaring. “Recent economic and inflation uncertainty has driven up the price of gold,” he says. “This is the highest it’s ever been. Now is the time to trade in and trade up; turn in old, found or broken gold jewelry and get something new.”
For years, the store has bought back millions of dollars worth of gold, which, after close inspection, is sometimes used for resale in their estate jewelry collection. In addition, one of the most popular offerings is its estate jewelry and designer estate new arrivals, which drop online every Tuesday at noon. Designer estate pieces such as Cartier, David Yurman, Rolex, Tiffany, and Van Cleef & Arpels, are available at significantly discounted prices.
“People from all over the world are coming to our website to buy these pieces; always looking for the best prices on vintage jewelry,” said Bauman. “It’s great to be in a job where you see people so happy buying beautiful jewelry.”
Walter Bauman Jewelers also hosts gold buyback fundraisers in an effort to give back and raise money for local organizations.
“We’re proud to be such a long-standing member of the community and partner with our customers to support the causes they believe in,” Bauman says.

When Daniela Schreier opened her European-style boutique in Summit in 2022, she named it after her family’s home address in Toronto, Canada. Their door was always open, and people were always welcomed in. This is how she wants customers to feel when they walk into Maison 53.
“It’s like walking into a beautiful, chic Parisian apartment, and that was my muse for the store,” she says. “For people like me who love Paris, pretty things, and entertaining, it’s just a little escape—like a mini shopping trip abroad.”
Upon entering, customers are surrounded by new objects from independent European artists, as well as carefully curated vintage pieces. “We do vintage drop events, and that’s been really fun.”

Customers will also enjoy a lovely bouquet of European fragrances wafting through the air, creating an immersive Parisian experience. “I grew up with a lot of European influence, and I want to keep those traditions and that culture alive here in the States,” says Daniela.
It’s also important to her to support local female artists too, so much of the wall art and some of the ceramics are created by them. “They put their heart and soul into these pieces, and for them to want to sell them in my shop, there’s no bigger compliment,” she says.
Maison 53 has a lot of repeat and word-of-mouth business, which makes Daniela happy. She also offers shipping for online shoppers. “I want to bring in pieces and find things that people will really love.”

Fertility Institute Delivers Compassionate Care, Cutting-Edge Treatments
BY KIM FERRARO
FFor patients who are eager to take on the role of a lifetime—parenthood—it is frustrating and heartbreaking to have fertility issues be a barrier to that dream. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, infertility affects 1 in 6, or almost 17% of couples. For more than 30 years, the Fertility Institute of New Jersey & New York has been helping patients overcome the odds and attain their most rewarding title: parent.
From its full-service office in Oradell and a satellite consultation location in Livingston, the Institute offers services such as ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in-vitro fertilization (IVF) with preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), and embryo freezing that yield
success rates that are on par with those of the largest fertility clinics in the country, according to CDC data (cdc.gov).
Equally important to patients and a key to their success in this emotional journey to parenthood is the compassionate, personal attention they receive. As Dr. Inna Berin, a codirector at the Institute, observes, “The field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility is a seamless blend of medicine, science, psychology, and other intangible factors. It takes collaboration of all my scientific and medical knowledge, but also the right word, the right smile, the right reassurance—and a little faith—for the process to work.”
Providers and staff members get to know patients intimately during indepth conversations about goals and medical challenges—talks that lead to a fertility treatment plan that patients collaborate on. Dr. Zalman Levine goes on to say “Our personalized approach results in patients feeling seen and heard. Our mission is always to offer top-tier reproductive medicine and treatment in an environment of warmth, encouragement, and emotional support.”

A Dental Home, Not Just a Dentist
Dr. Meeta Grewal is reshaping pediatric dentistry in Livingston
BY JACKIE SCHATELL, PHOTOS BY DAN EPSTEIN
FFOR MANY CHILDREN, VISITING THE DENTIST CAN SPARK ANXIETY OR FEAR. BUT STEP INTO CANOE BROOK DENTISTRY IN LIVINGSTON, AND YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING DIFFERENT: A WARM, LIVINGROOM-LIKE SPACE WHERE COMFORT, TRUST, AND PREVENTION COME FIRST. AT THE HEART OF IT ALL IS DR. MEETA GREWAL, A BOARD-CERTIFIED PEDIATRIC DENTIST WITH 17 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, WHOSE MISSION IS SIMPLE YET PROFOUND: TO MAKE EVERY VISIT FEEL LESS INTIMIDATING AND MORE LIKE HOME.
My practice is my dream, and teaching is my purpose. Together they make me a better doctor and mentor.
Dr. Grewal’s path began at New York University’s College of Dentistry, where she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. She launched her career as a general dentist, but her perspective shifted after a high-risk pregnancy with her son. The experience deepened her love for working with children and inspired her to return to school for a two-year specialty in pediatric dentistry. “I liked being a dentist, but I fell in love with being a pediatric dentist,” she says. Today she holds licenses in NJ and NY, is affiliated with leading dental organizations, and serves as associate program director at NYU Langone’s pediatric residency program.
She says, “My practice is my dream, and teaching is my purpose. Together they make me a better doctor and mentor.”
After more than a decade with prestigious practices in VA, NJ, and NY, Dr. Grewal opened Canoe Brook Dentistry in Livingston a year ago. Now raising her 14-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter in the local community, she designed the boutique-style practice to support every stage of a child’s growth, from six months through college. Services range from routine exams to advanced treatments such as digital X-rays, laser dentistry, crowns, and extractions.
– DR. GREWAL
Preventive care is always at the forefront, with options like sports mouth guards and desensitization programs for anxious or special-needs patients. By blending modern technology with a gentle, personalized approach, she ensures that children receive comprehensive care in a stress-free environment. “Dentistry for kids is really about prevention and coping skills,” she explains. “We are not just filling cavities; we are teaching habits that last a lifetime.”
Her team also works closely with speech therapists and lactation consultants to address challenges related to speech and breastfeeding, further reflecting her whole-child approach. Rather than defaulting to sedation, Dr. Grewal prioritizes trust and patience, often succeeding where others could not.
Her philosophy extends to parents as well. She sees her role as a partner in their parenting journey, offering trusted advice and multiple options rather than one-size-fits-all directives. This personal touch has kept families with her for over a decade, many following her from her previous office. Some of her earliest

patients are now in college, and one even volunteers at her office. “It’s come full circle,” she says with a smile. “Watching these children grow up has been one of the greatest joys of my career.”
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Grewal has dedicated herself to giving back both globally in Tanzania and locally, where she sponsors local sports teams and participates in cultural and community events.
For Dr. Grewal, dentistry is not just a profession. It’s a calling. Her vision
extends beyond fixing teeth to shaping healthy habits, strong relationships, and confident smiles that last a lifetime. At its core, her work is about trust, relationships, and the lifelong confidence that comes from a child who is not afraid to open their mouth and their heart in the dentist’s chair.

Life Medical: Expanding Care, One Home Visit at a Time
BY JACKIE SCHATELL
WWhen most people think of healthcare, they picture waiting rooms and long commutes. Life Medical sees things differently. What began as Life Mobile Urgent Care, a groundbreaking service bringing fully equipped medical teams directly to patients’ homes, has now grown into a full-spectrum mobile medical practice serving Essex, Morris, Union, and Somerset counties.
Founder Dov Brafman and his team have expanded well beyond urgent care. Today, Life Medical offers a comprehensive range of specialties designed for home-bound and senior patients who require consistent, compassionate care without leaving their living spaces. Services now include primary care, wound care, podiatry, palliative and hospice care, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, all performed bedside by licensed professionals using portable, state-of-the-art equipment.
“We’ve evolved from responding to urgent needs to providing ongoing, whole-person care,” Dov explains. “Our goal is to deliver the same quality and depth of medical attention you’d receive in a doctor’s office, but where patients feel most comfortable.”
That comfort is key. Whether it’s a wound dressing changed twice a week, an at-home echocardiogram, or a personalized therapy plan, each visit is designed around the patient’s unique needs. The team arrives ready to diagnose, treat, and follow up, all without the stress of transportation or waiting lines. Providers bring all necessary medical supplies and advanced diagnostic tools directly into the home, including mobile X-rays, ultrasounds, echocardiograms, and EKGs, ensuring thorough evaluations at bedside.
Primary care patients also build lasting relationships with their doctor or nurse practitioner, just as they would in a traditional practice, creating trust, continuity, and comfort over time. This approach not only enhances patient experience but also addresses accessibility gaps for those unable to travel due to age, mobility, or chronic illness.
In-network with most major insurance plans, Life Medical makes accessing care seamless, familiar, and dignified. With nearly 15 vehicles on the road daily, the practice is redefining what “house calls” mean in modern medicine.
Because at Life Medical, healthcare isn’t just about getting better, it’s about being cared for, wherever you are.

An Elite Experience From Start to Finish Transform the Look of Your Home with a Fresh Coat of Paint
BY SUE BALDANI, PHOTOS BY DAN EPSTEIN
WWhen Tony DiGrezia founded Elite Painting & Powerwashing in 1997, it was a one-man operation. “I started this business with $300 and bought some business cards, envelopes, and letterhead,” he recalls. Nearly three decades later, Elite has grown into a trusted team featuring a project manager, professional color consultant, and skilled tradespeople offering painting, carpentry, wood repair, gutter installation, and more.
“Many of these services go hand in hand with painting, so we try to be a one-stop shop,” says Tony. “It just makes it easier for the customer.” That customer-first approach shows in everything they do—from protecting homes to delivering quality results that truly transform spaces. “After we do the work, there’s a noticeable difference, and that’s super gratifying.”
Elite uses premium paints from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams, and all painters are personally trained by Tony. “We have the same painters—some for almost 20 years. We carefully hire and know who’s going to be in your house,” he says. Every project is completed with respect and care: “We never take for granted that someone saved up to have their home painted. We always aim to give more than their money’s worth.”
To minimize disruption, Elite focuses on one job at a time. Project Manager Danny keeps customers informed from start to finish, while Color Consultant Rebecca helps take the stress out of choosing the perfect palette—a service clients rave about.

SSince opening in January, Sugar Tree Cafe has developed quite a following. Customers enjoy the fresh and delicious dishes, specialty drinks, and seasonal offerings, all in a cozy and vibrant atmosphere.
“We change the specials and the drinks often, so everything we serve is fresh, with ingredients from the best suppliers,” says general manager, Fabian (Fabio) Garzon. And every dish and drink is prepped to order—nothing is premade.
The Mount Pleasant Breakfast, a hearty meal with scrambled eggs, bacon or chicken sausage, and toasted tomato served on multigrain toast with a side of home fries, is always a hit. The Livingston Chicken Sandwich, featuring a fried chicken cutlet, sliced avocado, bacon, and pesto aioli on toasted ciabatta bread, is a lunchtime favorite.
There are seven specialty drinks, which can be served hot or cold. Right now, the pumpkin spice and vanilla latte is perfect for fall. Its other lattes are also popular, and fun. “When guests dine in, they like to have custom pictures printed on their coffees,” he says. “We can do that on any hot drink that has milk.”
Lotus plant-based drinks are another great source of energy. “We serve them with ice, and they’re very refreshing,” says Fabio.
Eating in, picking up, and delivery are all available, as is catering. After-hours parties can also be held in the café after 5:00pm, and menus can be customized.
Stop into Sugar Tree Cafe, where customers are always greeted with a smile. “That’s our secret ingredient,” he says.

Just Greek Brings Authentic Mediterranean Flavor to Livingston
BY JACKIE SCHATELL, PHOTOS BY DAN EPSTEIN
LLivingston just got a taste of Greece—and locals are already raving. Just Greek, the brand-new restaurant on the block, opened its doors yesterday under the ownership of Yanni Arvanitopoulos, bringing with it a fresh spin on traditional Mediterranean dining.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Yanni is no stranger to the Essex County food scene. He’s the man behind the beloved Gyro World in Caldwell—now rebranded as Just Greek as part of his own franchise. With plans to expand the Just Greek franchise across New Jersey, Yanni aims to share his fresh, authentic recipes with an even wider range of communities. He says, “Our slogan says it all: Just Fresh. Just Homemade. And that’s exactly what we deliver.”
The recipes at the 20-seat restaurant featuring a cozy, Europeaninspired atmosphere perfect for casual lunches and relaxed dinners, are deeply rooted in Greek tradition, blending family favorites from Yanni’s mother with culinary artistry from his executive chef, Alexandros—nicknamed ‘Alexander the Great.’ Originally from Macedonia, Greece, Alexandros spent years cooking at Elounda Beach Hotel, one of the most luxurious resorts on the island of Crete. His approach combines timeless
Greek flavors with a modern touch—using imported herbs, spices, and olive oils to elevate every dish. Together, he and Yanni are expanding the menu with creative weekend specials and new dishes that showcase the diversity of regional Greek cuisine.
Diners can expect classics like gyros, falafel, lemon potatoes, and stuffed grape leaves alongside crave-worthy dips such as tirokafteri, fava, and melitzanosalata—all crafted with ingredients imported directly from Greece.
Greek food isn’t just delicious—it’s rooted in the world-renowned Mediterranean diet, which experts and publications like U.S. News & World Report consistently rank among the healthiest ways to eat. With its antioxidant-rich herbs, olive oil, garlic, and vegetables, Greek cuisine celebrates balance, heart health, and longevity—proof that eating well can also mean eating joyfully.
Yanni says the Livingston community has already made him feel at home. “People have been so welcoming,” he shares. “Livingston is a hidden gem.”
Known for supporting local schools and charitable causes, Yanni plans to continue giving back through sponsorships and community partnerships—spreading not just great food, but also the generous spirit of Greek hospitality.
