RACE SUMMARY
CINAMMON COCO has improved from run to run over hurdles and turned around Ballinrobe form with Hopes Are High when winning readily at Down Royal. Ground conditions are likely to be similar here and the Persian King gelding can take the next step up the ladder Hopes Are High was a winner at Listowel last time but his double penalty means he is only 2lb better off with the selection from Down Royal and that leaves him with a stiff task. Secret Force was just ahead of Al Riffa’s half-brother Superficial on the Flat at Listowel and both runners merit respect on their hurdling debuts.

RACE SUMMARY
Down Royal winner EASTMORE ran well in defeat at Listowel and will enjoy the likely good ground here. He’s up another 3lb but still looks on a reasonable mark and Charles Byrnes’ runner can strike again. Watching The Clock got going late to win at Galway and her trainer felt that she won in spite of soft ground that day. This will be only her third start in a handicap and she’s open to plenty of improvement. Derry Lad looked well handicapped ahead of his run at Downpatrick but drifted in the market and appeared to have no excuses. Bearami Creek would prefer further, while Deed Pole is one to note in his first handicap WIN: EASTMORE

Glen Kiln will do for many here after his unfortunate defeat at Tipperary but drying ground is a concern and it might just be worth opposing him. He was set to win a Grade 3 only to depart at the last and his new mark leaves him well in at the weights, but it’s a quick enough reappearance for the likely favourite and SMOOTH TOM is preferred Andy Slattery’s charge has shown enough pace to be placed in two renewals of the Irish Lincolnshire and has a good record in small-field contests over hurdles. Fred Winter sixth Wendrock has been off since April but will be suited by stepping up in trip WIN: SMOOTH TOM EACH-WAY: GLEN KILN

An ordinary contest and YOURE A DERRY GIRL might be good enough to score under her 7lb claimer The Leading Light mare landed a bumper on summer ground a couple of years ago and finished ahead of two recent winners when second at Ballinrobe last month. She was below par last time but is worth another chance. Reiki Revolution was placed over this trip in May and has been running well over 3m since. The five-year-old put in a sloppy round of jumping when second at Kilbeggan, but the winner enhanced that form next time and he’s a big player here. Point-to-point winner Accustomed ran respectably at Navan and might be next best.

HEADGEAR EXPLAINED
Have you ever wondered why some horses wear headgear? Is it just a fashion accessory? Most definitely not. Headgear is a useful tool in the armoury of a trainer and is used to aid a horse’s performance on the track.
BLINKERS - Blinkers can be used to aid concentration. A half cup placed behind the horses eye helps them to keep looking forwards to focus on the job at hand - winning their race!
VISORS - Very similar to blinkers but with a slit cut in the side of the cup, which enables a horse to see the other runners around them.
CHEEKPIECES - Sheepskin Cheekpieces work on a similar principle to Blinkers and Visors but allow a slightly better range of vision.
EYE SHIELDS - Eye Shields are a fine mesh that covers the entire eye but they do allow full vision.
HOOD - Covering the ears and head, a hood is used for horses that are easily spooked by crowds or noises, rather than for concentration purposes.
NOSEBAND - A Noseband is designed to restrict the field of vision and encourage a horse to focus on the race, usually lowering their head in the process.
TONGUE STRAP - Horses do not breathe through their mouth but even so, it can hamper speed and performance to have their mouth open or tongue flopping about. A tongue strap prevents this by keeping the tongue in place for the duration of the race.

RACE SUMMARY
MELLEM ran well at Roscommon after four months off and might be able to claim a first success here. Mark Fahey’s runner was caught late over 3m at Leopardstown in March and finished second over this trip in May. He can turn form around with third-home Gortmore Lady Dunany Point has been placed three times since winning over this trip in April and ran well from the front at Listowel last time Demanding Gerry has been knocking on the door and bumped into an improver when second at Clonmel She likes good ground and should be in the mix again.

BETTING EXPLAINED
The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. It is a no nonsense, on the nose bet and if you are lucky enough to pick a big-priced winner, you will receive a nice return. For example, place €5 to win on a 10-1 shot and you will receive €55 back, €50 winnings plus your €5 stake. Another common bet is each-way This is effectively two bets in one One bet is on your selection to win and the other is on it to place. Depending on the type of race and how many runners are in the race will determine how many places are offered. The industry standard bookmaker place terms are as follows:
All races of less than 5 runners – win only
All races of 5-7 runners –1/4 odds a place, 1,2
All other races of more than 8 runners –1/5, 1,2,3
Handicaps of 12-15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3
Handicaps of more than 15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3,4

RACE SUMMARY
A competitive affair but RISING DUST looks the one to side with off bottom weight. The seven-year-old just failed to land a gamble at Kilbeggan on his first start for Emmet Mullins but those losses were recouped when he won readily at Listowel. He got 12lb for that and is into a much better race now but there must be every chance that he’s still ahead of the handicapper Duke Silver stays well and also won at Listowel but would probably prefer a bit more juice in the ground Sign From Above comes here off the back of a win at Gowran and stepping up in trip should suit, but he has plenty of weight to shoulder

DID YOU KNOW
Regardless of their actual date of birth (or foaling to use a racing term), all thoroughbred racehorses in the Northern hemisphere sharethesame birthday-1stJanuary. In theSouthernhemisphere all horses share 1st August due to the fact that the seasons are reversed
ABBREVIATIONS EXPLAINED
You will occasionally see letters after a horses form figures in the racecard today - for example 45-2301 CD BF. But what do these actually mean and why are they shown?
C Stands for course and simply means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown. You may have heard the phrase ‘Horses for courses ’ which implies that some horses perform better at certain racecourses. Therefore, previous winning form here at Punchestown may suggest that it will run well again today.
D Stands for distance and means that the horse has won over the same distance it is racing over today but at another racecourse So today’s distance should suit.
CD Stands for course and distance so not only has the horse previously won here at Punchestown but when doing so it also won over the same distance that it is racing over today. So, winning form over today’s course and distance may indicate that another strong performance is on the cards.
C D If there is gap between the C and the D it means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown and also won over the same distance that it is racing over today but at another racecourse So today’s distance should suit and the horse will also be suited by the course
BF Stands for Beaten Favourite. Advises that a horse was well fancied in the past but despite being sent off favourite it failed to win. This can be off-putting to some punters especially if it is sent off favourite again today.
So now when you run through today’s runners and riders, you can identify which horses run well here at Punchestown and those which will be well suited by the distance that they are racing over.

Half-sister to Tessy Lad, won three times between 1m 2f and 1m 4f. Not to be overlooked on debut.
Prophetess Miriam was second to a classy type at Listowel and clearly has a nice level of ability but this can go to one of the newcomers and EASTER BONNET is the obvious starting point. Willie Mullins’ four-year-old is a half-sister to three bumper winners and two of those won first time out. The Doctor Dino filly can strike here and market strength would add to confidence. Gordon Elliott introduces Courageous Cleo, who is out of a sister to high-class hurdler Grandouet and she has to enter calculations, while Foxy Footprints is a half-sister to five Flat winners and is another to note WIN: EASTER BONNET
