The Wyoming Purple Star Program recognizes the efforts of kindergarten through 12th grade schools that are committed to and supportive of military students and their families as they transition to their new homes and schools.
“As if being a modern student in school today isn’t hard enough,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Johnson, an aerospace science instructor and Air Force JROTC instructor at East High, “imagine enduring the changes of culture, curriculum standards, course offerings, schedules and graduation requirements six to nine times in your educational career (as a militaryconnected student.) It’s daunting.”
“They’re showing up here most of the time coming in from out of town, out of state, and they may even have a parent that’s deployed at the time of their move. Hardships like these make the kids special, make the military family special,” Johnson added.
East High and Anderson Elementary join South High, Central High,
McCormick Junior High, Freedom Elementary and Jessup Elementary as Purple Star schools. Laramie County School District 1 schools make up seven of the eight Purple Star schools in Wyoming.

The Cheyenne Municipal Building Closure
The Cheyenne Municipal Building is closed until further notice. All City services remain available to the public and the main City phone line remains open at 307-637-2000. City staff and departments are available by phone and email at their regular numbers. The Clerk’s Office and Human Resources are at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, 710 South Lions Park Drive. The Mayor’s Office, City Attorney, the Building Safety Division, Planning and Development Department, MPO, Downtown Development Authority and City Engineer are located at 2020 Carey Avenue. Offices that offer in-person services and their locations are listed at the top of the City’s website at www.cheyennecity. org. City Council will continue to offer in-person attendance at its committee meetings, work sessions and full meetings of the Governing Body. All City Council meetings remain at their regular times but will be held in the Laramie County School District #1 Board Room at Storey Gym. Meetings will continue to be streamed on Zoom but streaming to the City’s Facebook and YouTube may be interrupted.

Visitors to Kiwanis Community Park are reminded not to feed neighboring horses or any other wildlife while on the park property. The City has received complaints about the issue and signs are posted at the park, which is located off East Pershing Boulevard. The horses near the park are on private property and feeding neighboring horses can disrupt their diets and cause serious health issues.
