HARRY POTTER FILM STAR TOM FELTON RETURNS TO

It is rare for an actor to revisit a role. But in a completely different medium? Rarer still. Tom Felton, who rose to fame as Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films, will make wizarding world history this November when he steps back into Draco’s robes—this time as an adult—in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway. “It’s very much a ‘pinch me’ situation,” Felton says. “I keep thinking I’m dreaming.”

The blockbuster play picks up 19 years after the events of the final story, with Draco and Harry as grown men navigating fatherhood and a new generation of wizards. “Getting a chance to step back into Draco’s shoes now that he’s a father in this new story—it’s very exciting,” Felton adds. And fans clearly agree, as Felton’s run in Cursed Child is gearing up to be one of the hottest tickets on Broadway this season. Will you be there when Tom Felton takes the stage, or are you “Scared, Potter?”

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an enduring New York City tradition, with more than 50 million viewers across the country and millions more lining the streets of the city. This 99th version of the parade will draw generations of families—locals and visitors alike— cheering for floats, live entertainment, and, of course, iconic hot air balloons. Look for celebs, marching bands, and hundreds of clowns. You’ll even get a look at Santa himself, making his season debut. The parade runs down Central Park West from 77th St. to Columbus Circle, along Central Park South to Sixth Ave., and concludes along 34th St. at Macy’s Herald Square. Line up early, and skip trying to find space on Sixth Ave. between West 34th and West 38th Sts. and West 34th Street itself, as the national TV broadcast limits viewing there. The parade runs 9am-noon. Pro tip: on Wednesday evening on the Upper West Side you can see the balloons being inflated ahead of the big event. macys.com

ON BROADWAY

BroadwayYour Way: A Visitor’s Guide

Insider Lowdown: cooler weather and the first wave of holiday magic mean sharing all New York has to offer with loved ones—and what better place to bring everyone together than Broadway! A sizzling roster of stars (see p. 49) and long-running mega-hits ensure that when it comes to Broadway, there’s clearly something for everyone!

HEARTS OF GOLD

Spiked with the energy of raw youth and a narrative that explodes from page to stage, The Outsiders is that rare breed of musical that not only draws you in, but ensnares you in the lives of its protagonists. Within the show’s Tulsa, Oklahoma ecosystem of haves and have-nots circa 1967, sparks fly as Ponyboy (Trevor Wayne), Johnny Cade (Sky Lakota-Lynch), and their fellow “Greasers” are confronted by the brutish jocks (the “Socs”), leading to a mud-and-blood encrusted climax and, ultimately, the mantra “Stay gold.”

This gritty, beautifully acted musical

captures both the characters and the emotional trajectory of S.E. Hinton’s transformative novel, written when she was just 16. Notes Hinton, “I didn’t just write ‘The Outsiders,’ I lived it.” And should you score tickets to this Tony-winning musical, for 2½ hours in the darkened theatre, you can live it too.

WANDS AT THE READY? BREAKING NEWS!

Polyjuice-worthy changes are taking place at Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, including a wizarding world first: Tom Felton, who played Harry’s arch enemy in the film series, will be returning to the role as grown-up Draco Malfoy on November 11th. Two days earlier, a trio of touring company veterans will join the cast—John Skelley in the title role, Aidan Close as his son, Albus, and Emmet Smith as Draco’s nerdy son Scorpius. And if you’re checking out this hot-ticket show prior to the 9th, you’ll see the acclaimed actors who’ve been casting their spell on audiences for a year or more, among them Broadway leading man Matthew James Thomas (Pippin; Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) as Harry Potter.

effervescent scene-stealing Genie (Michael James Scott) that makes Aladdin a must-see? Actually, it’s the whole package, one that also includes the killer production number “A Friend Like Me,” and non-stop scheming by the nefarious Jafar (Dennis Stowe)—all designed to bedazzle grown-ups as much as kids.

Based on Disney’s animated classic, the musical follows the daring young street thief Aladdin (Ainsley Melham), who releases Genie from an enchanted lamp and is catapulted into a magical wonderland of adventure and romance—the latter with the lovely Princess Jasmine (Sonya Balsara)!

SWANKIFIED WITCHCRAFT

Fantastical books and films may capture the imagination, but nothing enchants like live theatre, especially when the show is Wicked, a musical that continues to defy gravity and

“...the lavish Arabian Nights backdrops...the spectacular flyingcarpet date night...”

the sands of time, having just celebrated its 22nd Broadway birthday on October 30th.

Loosely following Gregory Maguire’s revisionist prequel to L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” the groundbreaking show takes flight when coed witches Elphaba (Lencia Kebede) and Glinda (Allie Trimm) share a dorm room and become BFFs, before moving on to Emerald City, where the Wizard (Brad Oscar) rules the Ozian roost.

Staged beneath a massive Dragon Clock, this Broadway phenom deals with injustice and conjures steampunk visuals and spellbinding special effects while turning the idea of “good vs. evil” inside out.

THE

GLITZ, THE GLAM, THE GATSBY

The sparkling musical based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel The Great Gatsby epitomizes the lifestyles of the rich and decadent a century ago, when the ‘20s roared and bootleg liquor wetted whistles at Jazz Age wingdings. Depending on when you score tickets, you’ll be privy to a great performance—only with a different actor in the role of the mysterious Jay Gatsby who’s

MIGHT & MANE

At Broadway’s The Lion King the thrills are immediate, arriving via a gaggle of skilled puppeteers guiding a gigantic elephant named Bertha down the aisle of the Minskoff Theatre onto the stage where she and her fellow fauna—giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and lions—assemble, summoned by the shaman Rafiki’s (Ntsepa PitjengMolebatsi) chant: “Nants ingonyama bagithi baba” (“Here comes the lion.”) These denizens of

Africa’s Pride Lands are coming together to celebrate Simba, the newborn cub whose coming-of-age story unfolds in true Disney fashion: with humor, passion, and friendship— as well as heart-pounding villainy orchestrated by Simba’s power-hungry Uncle Scar, played with diabolical glee by Broadway veteran Gavin Lee

it up to the show’s non-stop laughs from Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park) and Robert Lopez (Avenue Q). These infamously uncensored dudes decided that a mashup of innocence, irreverence, friendship, religion, and profanity made the perfect bedrock for their savory satire centering on a couple of naïve, newly-minted missionaries—Elders Price (Kevin Clay) and Cunningham (Diego Enrico)—assigned to convert a village full of jaded Ugandans to Mormonism.

Ultimately uplifting, with a Best Musical Tony Award to its credit, The Book of Mormon is highly recommended for anyone in need of a hilarious dose of escapism.

extinction. Winner of six 2025 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the show stars Helen J Shen (Claire) alongside her original costar Darren Criss, who rejoins the show November 5th as Oliver. The unlikely romantic tale is set in the “Helperbot Yards” (retirement complex) in Seoul, Korea, sometime in “the near future.” This is one you’ll want to share—with pretty much everyone.

Jamie Allan’s magical mojo is front and center in his knockout production Amaze at Off-Broadway’s New World Stages. After upending traditional magic show expectations by turning everyday high-tech into cuttingedge illusions, Allan added nostalgia to the mix, taking audiences back to when he was a boy in England. Driven to perform (once he mastered the Fisher-Price Magic Box tricks), he’s never lost his sense of kid wonder, turning a transfixing theatrical experience that captures his early fascination with the remarkable.

If, like countless others, you happen to be an ABBA superfan, get ready for jukebox nirvana! The first-ever Broadway revival of Mamma Mia! is up, running, and playing a winning nostalgia hand at the Winter Garden Theatre—where the original Broadway production began its staggering 14-year run in 2001. Bursting with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’s greatest hits, the show’s cast fearlessly captures the fun and exuberance built into bride-to-be Sophie’s plot to unearth the identity of her father from three possible candidates from her mother Donna’s past.

The action takes place on a Greek isle where dad contenders and Donna’s former pop trio besties converge, leading to mayhem, music, and a curtain-call blast-from-the-past concert sing-along.

NYC TRANSPORTATION FUN FACTS

A New York City taxi makes almost 1,400 trips a month. • If you laid out NYC’s subway tracks end to end you’d reach Chicago. • NYC Transit buses give 480 million rides every year. • The subway fleet travels 365 million miles a year. • No surprise here: the Times Square-42nd Street subway station is the city’s busiest. It’s the gateway to 55 million rides a year. • Ever wonder why city buses don’t take paper money ? NYC Transit uses giant vacuums to empty fareboxes, which would turn that cash into confetti. • By law, there are exactly 13,587 taxis in NYC. But good luck catching even one when it rains.
