Yet again, it’s that time of the year. Leaves are crisp and colorful, wardrobes are stuffed with chunky knits and hearty meals for two are set at the dining table. It’s cuffing season, and what better way to spend cozy nights in with a special someone than to press play on a returning romcom for our times. “Nobody Wants This” is back for its second season, premiering 10 brand-new episodes Thursday, Oct. 23, on Netflix.
Kristen Bell (“The Good Place”) and Adam Brody (“The Kid Detective,” 2020) return as the unlikely couple in love: relationship podcaster Joanne Williams and rabbi Noah Roklov. The first season saw them stumble through getting to know each other, weighing their very different backgrounds against their palpable chemistry, hitting several road blocks on the way to commitment.
Joanne, an agnostic podcast co-host on the rise, unexpectedly fell for Noah, a faithful rabbi whose dedication to the synagogue and its congregants was unfamiliar to her. With the culture clash between Noah’s Jewish family and community and Joanne’s circle of majority unbelievers being the main hurdle in the lovebirds’ fledgling relationship, another was Joanne’s career.
The podcast that Joanne co-hosts with her sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe, “Succession”), centered around the two oversharing about their love lives and giving out advice, became a controversial subject at the meeting-his-parents stage for the way the siblings candidly discuss the realities of dating.
Together with her borderline embarrassing lack of knowledge of Jewish culture and customs, Joanne fails to make a positive first impression with Noah’s family. A few knee-jerk overcorrections don’t land her much closer to the Roklovs’ good side, either.
At the same time, Morgan had grown frustrated with Joanne over her lack of commitment to their show and single-minded focus on Noah as the podcast started to gain traction. A sort of balance was struck in the first season’s finale when the sisters buried the hatchet and Joanne admitted she was not ready to convert to Judaism, returning to herself again.
The upcoming season sees Joanne’s rivalry with Noah’s mother, Bina (Tovah Feldshuh, “Harlan Coben’s Shelter”), deepen, the pair staring daggers at each other from opposite ends of the stands of Noah’s Matzah Ballers basketball game in the official trailer. While Joanne keeps one eye on Bina, more relationship challenges start forming in every other direction. Now that Joanne and Noah have estab-

lished themselves as an official couple, it is time for everyone in their lives to start asking them what’s next.
Marriage, babies and faith compromises are all on the table for dinner party conversation as the new couple merge their individual lives over dinner parties and family events. Never one to mince words, Morgan warns Joanne in the trailer while the podcast mics are hot, “the relationship isn’t solid until you’re out of the honeymoon phase.” It’s all fun and games until you’re wondering what your partner is really thinking at a friend’s baby shower.
Also returning this season are Timothy Simons (“Veep”) as Noah’s brother Sasha; Jackie Tohn (“GLOW”) as Sasha’s wife, Esther; Michael Hitchcock (“Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar,” 2021) and Stephanie Faracy (“Sneaky Pete”) as Joanne and Morgan’s parents, Henry and Lynn; Paul BenVictor (“The Wire”) as Noah’s father, Ilan; and Sherry Cola (“Good Trouble”) and D’Arcy Carden (“A League of Their Own”) as Joanne’s friends Ashley and Ryann.
Joining the cast this season is “Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester. Brody’s real-life spouse, Meester portrays Abby, a childhood nemesis of Joanne’s who has made a name for herself as a Los Angeles mommy influencer. Miles Fowler (“Bottoms,” 2023) guest stars as a new member of Noah’s basketball team and Arian Moayed (“Inventing Anna”) is psychotherapist Dr. Andy.
A few “Girls” alums have signed on for Season 2 of “Nobody Wants This” as well. Alex Karpovsky, who played curmudgeon Ray in all six seasons of the HBO show, guest stars as a new rabbi at Noah’s temple. “Girls” showrunners Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, meanwhile, have taken the reins from Season 1 showrunner and series creator Erin Foster (“Barely Famous”) to lead this upcoming season.
Seth Rogen, who recently took home four Emmy awards for his work in front of and behind the camera in the debut season of the Apple TV+ comedy series “The Studio,” also guest stars this season alongside “Search Party” actress Kate Berlant.
“Nobody Wants This” is loosely based on Foster’s own interfaith relationship, and the executive producer shared with Deadline in June some insights into what the writers room was ruminating on when creating the new season. After taking in some viewer reactions, Foster felt that people wanted to see “a show about healthy love and meeting someone later in life. That’s something people really grabbed onto. And so those were the themes that I made sure we paid attention to and gave energy to.”
Don’t miss a fresh new season of “Nobody Wants This,” premiering Thursday, Oct. 23, on Netflix.

Family first Shaw brothers return amid changes in ‘Tracker’ Season 3
By Dana Simpson TV Media
For better or for worse, a child’s upbringing will have an impact on their outlook and decisions as an adult. The degree to which a parent’s choices impact their child varies greatly depending on a multitude of factors both known and unknown — there have been countless “nature vs. nurture” studies in psychological and medical fields over the course of the past century, should anyone wish to investigate for themselves — but there is no denying that traits, perspectives and expectations are heavily shaped by our experience and surroundings, which includes parentage.
In CBS’s “Tracker,” these themes have previously taken a back seat to more action-packed procedural plots, but as the series heads into its third season, its leading man learns that his family is not as he has perceived it to be all these years. Find out how that impacts him, his career and his remaining family members when “Tracker” Season 3 premieres the first episode of a twopart arc Sunday, Oct. 19, on CBS. Episodes will air the same or next day on Paramount+, depending on the viewer’s subscription package.
Over the past two seasons, “Tracker” has laid its foundation as the story of Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley, “This Is Us”), a man who, driven by his own family secrets, has made a career of finding missing persons and collecting reward money. Described by CBS as a “trusted lone-wolf survivalist,” Colter enters Season 3 with a partner: his once maligned brother, Russell, played by “Supernatural” heartthrob Jensen Ackles. And although there is no telling where the reunited brotherly duo will take their story, CBS has revealed that viewers will be treated to a minimum of two episodes focused on the pair.
“The Process,” the first episode of the twopart season premiere, picks up in the aftermath of the Season 2 finale, “as Colter grapples with the shocking truth surrounding his father’s death,” the official logline reads.
“Russell joins forces with his brother to help track down the missing wife and daughter of one of Reenie’s [Fiona Rene, “The Lincoln Lawyer”] clients,” the CBS notice continues, adding that “their reunion finds them mixed up in a chain of events involving a sinister underground operation known as ‘The Process.’”
While it remains unclear whether the brothers will continue to track together throughout the rest of the season, as Ackles’ schedule reportedly conflicted with the show’s filming plans, rumor has it that this initial double episode will set the tone for the rest of the season by giving viewers a new large mystery to solve alongside Colter, now that many (although not all) of the questions around his father’s murder have been resolved. (Beware: Season 2 spoilers ahead.)
Justin Hartley and Jensen Ackles in “Tracker”
Of course, learning that Russell did not murder their father, Ashton (Lee Tergesen, “Oz”), was a huge relief to Colter, despite years of assuming that to be the case. But the news that their mother, Mary (Wendy Crewson, “Air Force One,” 1997), was instead somehow involved in the planned assassination was a devastating blow. Now that Russell is back in Colter’s life and the brothers are learning how best to mend their rift, there is also a huge possibility that Dory (Melissa Roxburgh, “Manifest”), the pair’s sister, will also have more involvement in the series as the siblings collectively process the new details surrounding their shared trauma.
But while “Tracker” parses with themes of generational trauma, abuse within the family and the harmful effects of long-kept secrets, showrunner Elwood Reid (“Cold Case”) shares that, behind the scenes, he only has one hardand-fast rule while writing and filming.
“The only rule I really have of the show is each week Colter is going to come to a new place and there’s going to be a new case,” Reid said in an interview with Us Weekly in May. “How he gets those answers and what he uses on the team, that’s all something that’s up for grabs. Meeting these [local] weird characters is something we’re going to try to do more of as the season goes on. ... It’s fun to see Justin flex those muscles with really good guest cast members.”
Created by “Legion” and “Manhunt” writer Ben H. Winters and based on the novel “The Never Game” by Jeffery Deaver, “Tracker” Season 3 will continue without much of the original cast, including Abby McEnany (“Work in Progress”), who played Colter’s handler, Velma Bruin; Robin Weigert (“Deadwood”), who played Velma’s wife, Teddi; and perhaps most devastatingly, without Eric Graise (“Step Up: High Water”), who played Bobby Exley and exited the show due to scheduling conflicts and other professional interests midway through the second season.
There is no reason to fear, though, as Bobby’s computer scientist cousin, Randy (Chris Lee, “The Chi”), is permanently stepping into the role of Colter’s tech support after covering for him during Bobby’s poorly explained absence last season.

From inside the ring to a heaping side of onion rings, this powerhouse sure knows how to take down his opponents, whether they be fellow pro wrestlers or all-encompassing menus. Following the supersized wrestler as he tastes his way across America, “Everything on the Menu with Braun Strowman,” a mouthwatering new series, makes its debut on USA Network Friday, Oct. 24.
“[Strowman] brings his superhuman appetite to America’s most delicious destinations, from the ultimate greasy-spoon favorites to the Michelin-starred temples of gastronomy and everything in between,” USA Network explains.
“In short,” the network continues, “the big man of the mat is going from dropkicks to chowdowns — and, heck yes, we’re hungry to see what Strowman is serving up. WWE Superstars work hard and it takes a lot to keep these allstar bodies fueled. It’s lucky that they travel all over the country and therefore have access to some of the best bites the nation has to offer, and Strowman is going to down every last one.”
Throughout this first season, Strowman plans to tackle restaurants in eight major cities — Fort Worth, Texas; Washington, D.C.; Orlando, Florida; Las Vegas; Chicago; Milwaukee; New Orleans; and Tampa, Florida. No matter the size of the menu, Strowman promises to try every last option. But that’s not all: Strowman plans to finish every last bite of food

he’s offered, fueling himself with countless calories ahead of his fights. After his dishes are licked clean, he’ll also share the winning dish from each spot.
As Strowman puts it, “There’s one thing that’s even bigger than my appetite for destruction, and that is my appetite for food ... I didn’t get to 350 pounds by accident.”

WHAT’S NEW ON PARAMOUNT+
“The Road” - Season 1
Twelve rising musicians hit the road, but only one will walk away a star in this competition series from co-creators Blake Shelton (“The Voice”) and Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”). “The Road” premieres Sunday, Oct. 19, on Paramount+, following a group of aspiring artists as they join Keith Urban (“Let It Roll”) on tour, performing as his opening acts in venues across the country. At each stop, the performers face live audiences where their talent, stage presence and ability to connect with fans determine who moves on to the next city. Guiding them along the way is singer-songwriter Gretchen Wilson (“Redneck Woman”), stepping into the role of “Tour Manager” to mentor the artists through the challenges of life on the road. Country stars Shelton, Jordan Davis (“I Ain’t Sayin’”), Karen Fairchild
(“Girl Crush”), Dustin Lynch (“Small Town Boy”) and Brothers Osborne (“21 Summer”) join Urban in mentoring the competitors and helping shape their performances and deciding who continues to the next city. With every performance testing their skills as singers, songwriters and instrumentalists, only one artist will make it to the end and prove what it takes to rise in the world of country music. Shelton and Sheridan serve as executive producers alongside Keith Dinielli (“The Voice”) and Michael Friedman (“Yellowstone”).

Q: I remember a show where Lee Pace, from “Foundation,” played a guy who was able to bring people and other things back to life. And maybe he was a baker? Did I imagine that? I can’t find it anywhere.
A: “Pushing Daisies” didn’t seem any less bizarre when it debuted on ABC in 2007.
It was, as you say, about a pastry chef (Lee Pace, now of Apple TV+’s “The Foundation”) who can magically resurrect the dead. He first revives his childhood sweetheart, then uses his powers to help a private investigator solve cases.
A review by Frances Grant of the New Zealand Herald perfectly sums up the fate of the show: “This is a show to love or hate, depending on your threshold for whimsy.”
Unfortunately, it was too whimsical for most, and it was canceled after two seasons.
But it’s the kind of show streaming is made for — beloved by a select group and highly rewatchable — so you can find it on a number of different services.
If you’re a fan of Pace’s new show, “The Foundation,” “Pushing Daisies” is also available on Apple TV+, but only for purchase. You can also hold out a little hope for seeing more of it in the future: Esquire magazine held a “TV reboot tournament” in 2015 to ask readers what show they’d most like to see remade, and “Pushing Daisies” took the prize. Perhaps the TV networks were listening.
Q: I really loved Prime Video’s new show, “The Girlfriend.” Is it going to get a second season? Where else can I see the actress who plays Cherry?
A: It’s too early to know if “The Girlfriend,” released just last month on Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video, will get a second season. The producers have said they’re ready to dive back in, but Amazon hasn’t said either way.
However, if you can be sustained just by seeing more of Olivia Cooke, the actress who plays titular girlfriend Cherry, I have good news.
Cooke is part of the sprawling ensemble of HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” one of the buzziest shows on TV (well, not currently on TV — more on that in a moment). She plays Alicent Hightower, one of two queens fighting a civil war in the series, which is a prequel to the smash hit “Game of Thrones.”
Unfortunately, we’re currently in the middle of
a two-year wait for a new season — Season 3 of “House of the Dragon” isn’t due out until the summer. On the upside, that means you have two seasons to catch up on in the meantime.
But the homework doesn’t stop there. Cooke actually has a pretty packed resume: She also appeared in the hit series “Bates Motel,” the first season of another buzzy streaming drama, “Slow Horses,” and the 2018 miniseries version of “Vanity Fair.”
On the big screen, she’s starred in the Oscarwinning “Sound of Metal” (2019) and the hit scifi film “Ready Player One” (2018), among many other roles.
But right now “The Girlfriend” is the role people are talking about — SlashFilm.com called the show “the internet’s new obsession.”
Producer Jonathan Cavendish told TechCrunch that he and his fellow producers have ideas for how the second season would go and how it would resolve the cliffhanger finale (no spoilers). But given that it only aired a few weeks ago, it’s not surprising that Amazon hasn’t committed yet.
Q: “Mean Girls” has become a cult classic, and many of the stars are big names. But what about the guy who played Aaron? Where is he now?
A: As you say, he hasn’t quite had the success of his “Mean Girls” (2004) co-stars (which is maybe fair — that movie really was about the girls), but Jonathan Bennett has built a still-im-
pressive Hollywood resume over the years.
I’d be lying if I said a lot of it doesn’t come from people’s love of “Mean Girls,” in which Bennett played love interest and plot device Aaron Samuels, the handsome boy at the center of a love triangle with the film’s two main characters (Lindsay Lohan, “The Parent Trap,” 1998; and Rachel McAdams, “The Notebook,” 2004).
For example, Bennett appeared last year in an episode “RuPaul’s Drag Race” that was celebrating the movie’s 20th anniversary.
But that appearance was also part of Bennett’s growing body of reality TV work, in which he’s parlayed his fame into hosting gigs (such as on Food Network’s “Cake Wars” and “Halloween Wars”) and contestant gigs (on “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2019 and “Dancing With the Stars” in 2014).
His most recent such gig came this past summer, when he hosted “Christmas at Sea” on the Hallmark Channel. That, in turn, was part of the other major aspect of his career: Hallmark heartthrob. Bennett has appeared in numerous Hallmark productions, mostly Christmas-themed.
These include last year’s “Happy Howlidays,” 2020’s “The Christmas House” and many other films, but also other reality shows, such as last year’s competition “Finding Mr. Christmas.”
