Obituary

“ To everything there is a Season, and a time for every Purpose under Heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1

HER FOUNDATION

Thelma “TP” as she was affectionely called was born in the quaint little settlement of Seymours, Long Island on June 29th, 1935. Thelma was the third of six children born to Maggie and Garnet Gibson. At an early age Thelma went to live with a group of missionaries in Simms, Long Island and attended the Glintons All Age School. Her classmates included Emeritus Rex Major, the late Calsey Johnson, Micheal Horton, Hortense Rahming. She met her soul mate at this time, Osbourne Alexander Pinder, whom she later married and they were blessed with two children, Ron and Cheryl.

HER CAREER

Thelma later moved to New Providence where she was employed at The D’Albenas Agency and then later ventured into banking. She worked at several banking institutions which included Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Fidelity and Chase Manhattan Bank. While at Chase Manhattan Bank, she managed the following branches Oakes Field, Monument and Cable Beach. After contributing to the banking industry for more than two decades, Thelma continued working using her skills at the following companies: Dollar Plus, Lil General and finally at Caribbean Bottling company where she officially retired

Thelma was a raised in the Assemblies of Brethren from birth; however she was confirmed at the Most Holy Trinity church during the tent days at Bishop Hill and accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour. She was active in the life of her church working with the Finance Team, the Brice Cell church group and served on the Board of Trinity School. After retirement at the age of sixty, Thelma volunteered with the Yellow Birds at the Princess Margaret Hospital where she worked on the Children’s ward every Saturday. She got great joy visiting with the children and reading stories at their bedside. She volunteered at the Dundas Centre where she managed the box office for many years.

HER SPORT

Thelma was an avid fitness lover and for many years, she could be found working out with Natbros with Natasha Brown or walking the Cable Beach strip with her walking partners. Thelma enjoyed travelling and especially cruising around the world.

HER FAMILY

Thelma believed in family and she would always tell them that “ you were born with your family and you met your friends”. The Gibson family gatherings would never be the same without Aunt Thelma’s stew fish, potatoe bread, steam mutton and peas and grits. She was stern and always told her children to be transparent and honest, because in life you only have your name. She made her children save their monies and put God first in everything they did do. She pushed Cheryl and Ron and taught them the importance of going to church.

When Thelma got sick, Cheryl and Ron prayed without ceasing. They both took excellent care of their mother. They took shifts during this time; and Ron always had the evening shifts while Cheryl did the midnight shifts. Cheryl would constantly say to her mother and tested her mother’s memory to ensure that she still held onto her faith and her response would be a nod. Her bible study group was a big support and from time to time, they held services at the home. Thelma was strong and her heavenly Father looked down and saw her pain, picked this beautiful rose from His garden on Thursday, October 10th, 2025 and took her to her new home with a new body. Thanks be to God for her life and she will be dearly missed and live forever in the hearts of her children, family and friends.

THE INTRODUCTORY RITE

AT THE RECEPTION OF THE BODY | (All Stand)

Celebrant: With faith in Jesus Christ, we reverently receive the body of our dear sister, Thelma, for burial. Our sister was washed in Holy Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore, with confidence, pray to God, our Heavenly Father, the Giver of life, that He will raise her to perfection in the company of the Saints.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And also with you.

V. Let us pray.

Celebrant: O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our sister, Thelma. We thank you for giving her to us, her family and friends, to know and love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before , through Jesus Christ our Lord.

ALL: Amen

Celebrant: (the use of holy water is appropriate at this reception) I bless the body of Thelma with the Holy Water that recalls her baptism into Christ, of which St. Paul writes: “All of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death.” By baptism into His death, we were buried together with Him, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might have a new life, For if we have been united with Him by likeness to His death, so shall we be united with Him by likeness to His resurrection.

ALL: Amen.

( The coffin is then covered with a pall. After the coffin is covered with a pall, it is not be opened again.)

(The Procession to the Sanctuary begins)

THE ENTRANCE

(An acolyte or some other person leads the procession carrying the lighted Paschal Candle. Thurible, Cross and torches are carried after the Paschal Candle. The celebrant follows (with assisting ministers). During the procession to the Altar, one or more of the following sentences may be read)

Celebrant: Jesus said, I am the resurrection, and I am the life, he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die ( John 11:25-26) The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His compassion never fails, every morning they are renewed (Lamentations3:22-23)

Jesus said, Let not your hearts be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me (John 14:1)

I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angle, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor Things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

If we live, we live to the Lord and and if we die to the Lord, so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. (Romans 14:8-9)

We brought nothing into this world, and we take nothing out. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away: Blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21)

The eternal God is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deuteronomy 33:27).

(The coffin (covered) is placed in the middle of the center asie before fthe altar. The foot of the coffin faces the altar. The position of the Paschal Candle is to the front left side of the coffin, facing the altar)

THE INTROIT HYMN | FOR ALL THE SAINTS

For all the Saints, who from their labors rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confess’d, Thy Name, O Jesu, be forever blessed. Alleluia!

Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their Might; Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia!

O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, Fight as the Saints who nobly fought of old, And win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold. Alleluia!

O blest communion! fellowship Divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine. Alleluia!

COLLECT FOR THE DEPARTED

Celebrant: Let us pray

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia!

The golden evening brightens in the west; Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; Sweet is the calm of Paradise the blest. Alleluia!

But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; The Saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way. Alleluia!

From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, Singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost: Alleluia!

Almighty God, we remember before you today your servant, Thelma, and we pray that, having opened on her the gates of larger life, you will receive her more and more into your joyful service, that, with all who have served you in the past, she may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for, ever and ever.

All: Amen

THE GRADUAL HYMN | City of Gold

There’s a city of Light, where there cometh no night; ‘Tis a city of beauty untold; All my treasures are there and its beauty I’ll share, When I get to that city of gold.

(Chorus)

When I leave all trouble and care, I will say good morning up there; I will have great gladness untold, When I get to that city of gold

There’s no sorrow up there in that city so fair And no sickness can enter I’m told; Shadows all will have flown, I will meet friend I’ve known When we get to that city of gold.

Won’t you go there with me to the home of the free, Would you see heaven’s beauty unfold? If you will come along, we will sing heaven’s song When we get to that City of gold.

THE HOLY GOSPEL | JOHN 14:1-6 | Read by the Clergy

Reader: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you.

Reader: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John, the fourteenth chapter, beginning at the first verse.

All: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

Reader: 1. Do not let your heart be troubled, Believe in God, believe also in me. 2. In my Father’s house, there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you that I go to prepare a place for you. 3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4. And you know the way to the place where I am going. 5. Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going, How can we know the way?” 6. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

DEVOTIONAL HYMN | Trust and Obey

When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way; While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey.

(Chorus)

Trust and obey

For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies, But His smile quickly drives it away; Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear, Can abide while we trust and obey.

THE HOMILY | The Rev’d Fr. Deangelo Bowe

THE CREED (THE APOSTLE’S CREED)

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross, But is blest if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove the delights of His love, Until all on the altar we lay; For the favor He shows, and the joy He bestows, Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet, we will sit at His feet, Or we’ll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do; where He sends, we will go, Never fear, only trust and obey.

Priest: Let us with confidence and hope confess faith into which we were baptized, as we say: All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son , our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried, He descended to the dead. On the third day, He rose again, He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN | Jerusalem the Golden

1. Jerusalem the golden! With milk and honey blest; Beneath your contemplation Sink heart and voice opprest. I know not, oh! I know not, What joys await us there, What radiancy of glory, What bliss beyond compare.

2. They stand, those halls of Zion, Conjubilant with song, And bright with many an angel, And all the martyr throng; The Prince is ever in them, The daylight is serene; The pastures of the blessed Are deck’d in glorious sheen.

3. There is the throne of David, And there, from care released, The shout of those who triumph, The song of those who feast, And they, who with their Leader, Have conquer’d in the fight, Forever and forever, Are clad in robes of white.

4. O sweet and blessed country, Shall e’er I see your face? O sweet and blessed country, Shall e’er I win your grace? Exult, O dust and ashes! The Lord shall be your part; His only, his forever, You shall be and you are.

HYMN | AND CAN IT BE

1 And can it be that I should gain An int’rest in the Savior’s blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love! how can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me?

Refrain:

Amazing love! how can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me!

2 ‘Tis mystery all! Th’Immortal dies! Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine! ‘Tis mercy all! let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more. [Refrain]

3 He left His Father’s throne above, So free, so infinite His grace; Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race; ‘Tis mercy all, immense and free; For, O my God, it found out me. [Refrain]

4 Long my imprisoned spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth and followed Thee. [Refrain]

5 No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him is mine! Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own. [Refrain] Amen.

(Chorus)

It is well, it is well, With my soul, with my soul, It is well; it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend Even so, it is well with my soul

RECESSIONAL HYMN | The Day thou gavest Lord is ended

The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended, The darkness falls at Thy behest; To Thee our morning hymns ascended, Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

We thank Thee that Thy church, unsleeping, While earth rolls onward into light, Through all the world her watch is keeping, And rests not now by day or night.

As o’er each continent and island

The dawn leads on another day, The voice of prayer is never silent, Nor dies the strain of praise away.

The sun that bids us rest is waking

Our brethren ’neath the western sky, And hour by hour fresh lips are making Thy wondrous doings heard on high.

So be it, Lord; Thy throne shall never, Like earth’s proud empires, pass away: Thy kingdom stands, and grows forever, Till all Thy creatures own Thy sway.

THE CONCENTRATION OF THE GRAVE |

GRAVESIDEHYMNS | Glad Reunion Day

There will be a happy meeting in heaven I know When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below. Gather on the blessed hilltops with hearts all aglow. That will be a glad reunion day.

(Chorus)

Glad day, a wonderful day, Glad day, a glorious day; There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay, That will be a glad reunion day.

IT IS FINISHED

There’s a line that is drawn through the ages

On that line stands an old rugged cross

On that cross, a battle is raging

To gain a man’s soul or it’s loss

(Chorus)

It is finished, the battle is over; it is finished, there’ll be no more war It is finished, the end of the conflict; it is finished and Jesus is Lord

On one side, march the forces of evil

All the demons, all the devils of hell

On the other, the angels of glory And they meet on Golgotha’s hill

IT ALRIGHT NOW

There was a time I travelled a lonely sinful road; Beneath a heavy burden bending low; But now all things are different, since Jesus took my load It’s alright now, I’m His I know.

(Chorus)

It’s alright now, for I am in my Saviour’s care

It’s alright now; my Saviour hears and answers prayer He’ll walk with me, (He’ll walk beside me) Till I climb the heavenly stair, And everything (And everything is alright now)

There within the holy city we’ll sing and rejoice, Praising Christ the blessed Saviour with heart and with voice. Tell him how we came to love Him and make Him our choice. That will be a glad reunion day.

When we live a million years in that wonderful place Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face. It will seem but just a moment of praising His grace. That will be glad reunion day.

The earth shakes with the force of the conflict

And the sun refuses to shine

For there hangs God’s son, in the balance And then through the darkness he cries

Yet in my heart, the battle was still raging

Not all prisoners of war had come home These were battlefields of my own making I didn’t know that the war had been won

Oh, but then I heard the king of the ages Had fought all the battles for me And that victory was mine for the claiming And now praise his name, I am free.

And down a lonely pathway, without a friend to guide, I walked in sin and sorrow all alone

‘Till Jesus came and found me, and drew me to His side; It’s alright now, for I’m His own.

No more in sin I wander, no more in darkness roam The Lord has placed my feet on higher ground; Each day new heights I’m gaining, my soul is nearing home, It’s alright now, I’m heaven bound.

Her LEGACY

TRIBUTE TO MY MOTHER

It is with great sadness to write this tribute to my mother.

My mother loved her family. She was stern in raising us. A mother’s love is something that no one can explain.

Mother gave us 80 good years of her life, until her health started to fail.

Thank you, mother for the time we shared. May your soul rest in peace.

Love, Ron.

MY BIGGEST SUPPORTER, MY MUMMY

To the biggest supporter in my life who pushed me and mold me. Her faith in God until the end.

Energetic Mummy who felt she could do anything. Love that she displayed to me and Ron and her entire family. My earthly God whom I would do anything for. Assurance in God and his faithfulness towards her.

My mother was my earthly God whom I would do anything and everything for. You pushed me to always do my best. You taught me that I cannot do anything without God. We did everything together, exercised, prayed, sang when you were sick, shopped until we dropped and boy did we cruise!

Mummy, I am so grateful that God answered my prayers and allowed you to see ninety years which we celebrated you in grand style. I know you are in a better place and I will keep you in my heart forever.

I will never forget all the lessons you taught me. Until we meet again, rest in peace mummy.

Your only loving daughter, Cheryl

TRIBUTE TO MY GRANDMOTHER

Today we honor the life of my grandmother, a woman whose journey was marked by dedication, perseverance, and a lasting commitment to those around her. Through the many seasons of her life she remained active and engaged building a legacy rooted in hard work and quiet strength. She’s literally one of the STRONGEST women I knew and she stood on business while looking glamorous doing it. Now that’s true talent! In her own way, she helped to shape who I am. Through the lessons she passed down, the love she gave and the examples she set, her spirit lives on in me. Family gatherings and familiar sayings all hold traces of her — reminders that even when distance exists, connection never fades. “Those we love remain with us, For love itself lives on. Cherished memories never fade, Because a loved one’s gone.” In your later years, you faced life challenges with so much grace. May you rest peacefully, and may your memory remind us of the importance of family, forgiveness, and grace. You will always & forever have a place in our hearts.

We love you Grammy!

Your Grand & Great Grandchild Rhonda & Raveyah

A TRIBUTE TO MY SISTER, THELMA

“Some people walk beside us for a season, but my sister walked with me for a lifetime—her strength, love, and wisdom shaping every step I took.”

It was in the 1960s when I journeyed from Seymour’s, Long Island to New Providence in search of employment. Upon my arrival, I lived with my sister, Thelma. At first, we shared a small rental unit, but after a few years, we made the decision to purchase a property and build a home together. That home became not just a place of shelter, but a symbol of partnership, family, and shared dreams.

Thelma had a profound influence on my life. She taught me the importance of hard work, discipline, and saving — lessons that prepared me to manage my affairs as a young man and later to provide for my own family. She believed deeply in selfsufficiency and responsibility, values that became the foundation of my life.

Thelma was a woman who tolerated no nonsense in any aspect of her life. Her strength and straightforwardness were evident to everyone she encountered. As a mother, she was deeply devoted to her children, Ron and Cheryl. She worked tirelessly to ensure they enjoyed a comfortable life and a solid education, always reminding them that with education, “the sky is the limit.”

Among her siblings, Thelma shared a loving bond with each of us, but our relationship was especially close. Her love for me was unmatched — she would defend, support, and stand by me without hesitation. We simply adored each other. Our family often sought her advice, and when we were in her presence, we made sure to have our affairs in order because we respected her wisdom and high standards.

Professionally, Thelma built a distinguished career in the financial sector, rising through the ranks to become a manager. Her colleagues admired her leadership and appreciated her warmth and professionalism. She was also a faithful servant of God, active in her church, involved in various ministries including the weekly cell ministry and Trinity Christian School. Her faith guided her life, and she served her Lord faithfully until she was no longer able.

We were inseparable—often referred to as “two peas in a pod.” We spoke every day until her illness made communication difficult. Thelma was a disciplined and organized person. She loved exercise, regularly attended the gym, and even participated in walking competitions.

In our family, she was the financial secretary — meticulous and prudent in managing the family’s finances. Through her financial guidance, our family business was able to grow and continues to operate today. She had a keen interest in real estate, stocks, and bonds, always striving to strengthen our family’s financial foundation.

Thelma’s legacy is one of love, integrity, faith, and perseverance. Her example continues to guide us, and her memory will forever live in our hearts. Though she is no longer physically beside me, her spirit continues to walk with me every day.

Love, Charles

TRIBUTE OF A FORMER CO-WORKER

Very early in my banking career with The Chase Manhattan Bank, N. A., Ms. Thelma Pinder was transferred to the then Cable Beach branch to become the branch manager and hence, my supervisor. She and I made up the two-member total staff compliment that serviced that branch: I was the branch teller and she was my supervisor. This was about 1979/1980.

We had some rather interesting and sometimes very challenging times learning each other, as we worked as a team to satisfy the Bank’s clientele with the various over-the-counter products and services. I began to recognize that although Ms. Pinder often appeared tough on the surface, she had a very caring heart.

At the time, the City Markets, Cable Beach food store was adjacent to the Bank. They always had a large number of staff - particularly male staff. Ms. Pinder never hesitated to tell them to work hard and spend their money wisely, or to give them some helpful advice, especially in reference to banking.

Similarly, as there were a number of hotels and guest houses fairly nearby, along with many other service providers, we often had a number of tourists coming in for financial services. Ms. Pinder never held back engaging them in conversation - like a true Bahama Hostess - especially if they had run out of money and needed to have funds wired in, or if they had some other difficulty.

It didn’t matter who the clients were, Ms. Pinder found a way to engage them and give helpful, caring advice.

I will always be grateful to her because as a young 19 or 20 year-old, not only was she very concerned and made every effort to help me on days that were rough, or when I had difficulty in ‘balancing my till’ or when something went wrong, but she also made sure I understood, and dvised me in how to personally invest in company shares and Central Bank Government stocks, and how to save effectively. She cared about me and my development, as a young person.

But I will always remember the love and admiration that she had for her own children: Ron and Cheryl. When Ron went to Yugoslavia, working with Club Med - I think everyone knew it!! I don’t think you would have met a more proud Mum about this than Ms. Pinder - and rightly so! That is of course - unless the daughter, Cheryl, wasn’t working at RoyWest Trust at the same time! Ms Pinder was extremely proud of both Ron and Cheryl and their achievements, and truly loved them, and continually spoke well of them.

I am truly thankful to God for connecting me with Ms. Pinder - for the time spent in the Cable Beach branch, and then as we were both eventually transferred to the Oakes Field branch. I can truly say that it pays to take the time to appreciate the good in others, no matter what challenges may try to conceal them. I have learnt so much from Ms. Pinder, that has been a great help to me over the years.

I pray for Ron and Cheryl and the rest of their family, God’s comfort, strength and peace, as they cherish the fond memories of their Mum.

May her soul rest in peace. Amen

TRIBUTE TO MY FRIEND/ FAMILY

Thelma “TP” Gibson-Pinder

Friendship is a rare treasure, and I was truly blessed to find that treasure in Thelma “TP” Gibson Pinder. I first met TP in 1981 when I joined Chase Manhattan Bank. From that very first encounter, I knew she was someone special. Through the years, our friendship blossomed. I often served as her relief at the Chase Manhattan Bank in Oakes Field whenever she went on vacation, and it was during those times that I came to know her more deeply.

TP was a no-nonsense person, always well-dressed and poised. But beneath that strong exterior, for those who took the time to know her, there was a loving, kindhearted woman with a beautiful smile and a generous spirit. Her warmth was felt by everyone around her. She was not only a dear friend but also a devoted mother who adored her children, Ron and Cheryl. Her love for them was evident in everything she did. Let us also not forget her unwavering faith and dedication to her Anglican family, which guided her throughout her life. Today, as we say farewell, I want to honor TP as more than a friend— she was family. Her memory will forever remain with us, and her legacy of kindness, strength, and love will continue to inspire us.

Farewell, my treasured friend and family. Take your well-deserved rest until we meet again.

TRIBUTE TO AUNT THELMA

Aunt Thelma was always consistent — in who she was and what she stood for. She encouraged each of us to be our very best. You never had to wonder what she was thinking; she spoke her mind on every occasion, with honesty and conviction.

She was a hard worker — almost allergic to laziness — and she had no time for half-efforts. She believed that if you were going to do something, you should do it well.

Her love and concern for our kids was always evident. Whether it was through gifts, financial support, or simply being present at special events, she showed up — in every sense of the word. Her presence was her promise. She also believed in tough love. She did not spare your feelings if you were headed down an incorrect path. She was more concerned about best outcomes for your life.

She took great care of herself, staying active and exercising consistently well into her later years. She believed in looking after her body and lived that belief daily.

She had a gift for encouragement — not just for us, but for everyone she came in contact with. Her words uplifted, her actions inspired, and her loyalty was unwavering.

Family meant everything to her. She was fiercely devoted to our dad, whom she affectionately called “Brah.” Together, they were a team. We used to call them “Christie and Davis” — though we were never quite sure who was who. But that was the beauty of it — they were a combo package, two halves of one strong, united whole.

Love Dwayne, Dion, Charlisa.

TRIBUTE TO OUR DIVA AUNT

There is a always that one Aunt who forever thinks that she is 21 and never minces her words but tells it as it is...lol. Age was only but a number with Aunt Thelma. She was always well dressed with the latest styles and designs. Whenever you greet Aunt Thelma she proudly would speak of how she gets up to go to the gym at 4am in the morning and how she wears a size 2 and this was in her seventies, so you know that she was stepping on point. Aunt Thelma was a hard worker.

As a retired professional banker she always spoke of investments and money management. Even after her official retirement Aunt Thelma would say I’m working half days at this company, driving herself to work. She was definitely a go getter and believed in working, even if just to keep herself occupied and her mind alert. She was dedicated, loyal and committed to whichever company she became employed with...a real exemplary business lady. Aunt Thelma believed in family and exhibited great love to her children, her siblings and her church family. She believed in the power of prayer and God’s word. Many times she spoke of the various prayer sessions her “cell group” would hold. Aunt Thelma was an advent traveller visiting many countries accompanied by her son Ron, daughter Cheryl and sometimes family and friends. She loved to travel and enjoyed fine dining. Aunt Thelma was a phenomenal woman with great fortitude. Even during her time of illness Aunt Thelma persevered. As Psalm chapter 1 verse 3 says, “she will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water bringing forth her fruit in her season. Her leaves shall not whither and whatsoever she doeth shall prosper”.

Well Done Madam Diva, take your rest in the Eternal Arms of Jesus!

Love, Niccola (Roger), Vanessa (Cecil), Caden & Cai

TRIBUTE TO A SISTER THELMA PINDER

2 Timothy Ch. 4 verse 7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my race, I have kept the faith.” Our sister Thelma Pinder was dedicated and loved her family, church (The Most Holy Trinity) and her Cell Church family. She was always there, at Cell Church, in her quiet way and sat in the same chair every meeting. Thelma gave timely and sound advice and impactful contribution to this family, in her calm and quiet spirit. A great woman of God whose deeds in faith and love will continually be a pillar of strength to our Cell Church family, and a perfect pattern that will draw and guide more souls for the kingdom of God. May she rest in perfect peace.

A TRIBUTE TO A DEAR FRIEND

Proverbs 18:24 states, a man that has friends must show himself friendly and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. That is what my friend Thelma was to me. She was not a friend but a confidant. I was blessed to have met and worked with Thelma know to her close friends as “TP”. We both worked at a wholesale agency during that period her daughter Cheryl was born and I was privilege to be her godmother.

Our friendship grew stronger through the years as I went onto Barclays Bank, she went on to CIBC then the banks merge and that brought us together to FCIB. We spent many hours chatting and updating each other on our families and thanking God for our blessings. She was a fashion icon and looked forward to her and Cheryl trips to Atlanta shopping for Christmas. She also kept me informed of any new restaurants that she and Cheryl visited on their birthdays and how the food was. She was a godly woman and was active in the church of the Most Holy Trinity and she also was a member of the school board.

I was honored to worship and attend a birthday luncheon for her 90th birthday in June of this year; for that I am grateful. I thanked her for being a wonderful and true friend to me. I will never forget those fond memories. I will miss you my dear friend, sleep on heavenly peace until the first resurrection when those in Christ shall rise first.

Love always, Beverly Sherman- A good friend.

A TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR FRIEND

Thelma was a strong and determined woman with a great love for her family. Her love for them, especially her children Cheryl and Ron, and her “Bro” Charlie, came shining through in our conversations. She had a special place in her heart for her family.

We met in the mid-80’s at Holy Trinity and our relationship continued to grow over the passing years. In time, I got to observe her commitment to serving in the life of the church and cell ministry. I could count on seeing her every Sunday and Wednesday when she was able to come out. She was always willing to contribute toward our cell activities whenever called upon. In addition, I was always delighted whenever she shared something special with me from her kitchen.

Her passion for her daily gym workout was impressive to me. Clearly, it paid off with the trim figure she was able to maintain over the years!

I will miss Thelma dearly and cherish the memories of the times we shared. She is now at home with her Mama and siblings who have gone on ahead. Sleep on, TP. Rest in peace eternally.

Your friend, Vernell Moss

A TRIBUTE TO LADY THELMA PINDER

Ron and Cheryl, your mom was an amazing and incredible woman. She always had a kind word and valuable advice to share. Whatever she did, she poured her heart into it. I will always remember when I was invited to go to Natasha Brown’s fitness club with her and Cheryl, Mrs. Pinder followed the instructions and trust me she achieved her goal while Cheryl and I struggled. I will always remember her dedication and kindness. A person who was so caring, loving and full of wisdom. May her legacy of love, care and guidance continue to inspire and uplift us all. Cheryl may her memories be a blessing to both you and Ron and your family during this difficult time.

May she rest in peace, knowing that you and Ron are in good hands and will carry her love and values forward. I will always cherish the memories of her kindness and generosity. May she rest in peace.

A LOVING TRIBUTE TO MY AUNT THELMA

Our family was really blessed, spoiled and took for granted Aunt Thelma who lived healthy and was the bedrock of the modern Gibson clan. She was stern direct and was the consummate professional as a longtime banker and administrator. As children growing up in Stapledon Gardens interacting with our aunt Thelma we this generation were reminded of her values of family faith and perseverance. Her home was always open, her arms always welcoming and her love for her nieces’ nephews and their children was constant and unwavering. Almost every time I visited her or spoke with her on the phone she would ask” how the tribe doing” everybody okay? How Daylen – he still een have no language???

One thing about Aunt Thelma, both joy and sorrow were displayed on her face. There was no guessing what she was feeling in every moment. You needed to be on time, you needed to be responsible, and you needed to stay out of all trouble. I would always chuckle because her inquiries about your life may have sounded harsh but were not offensive. It came from a place of love. She wanted my son Daylen to be typical and reach all the usual milestones as a developing young man and was interested constantly in his healing and development. She wanted the girl to be the best students they could be and make the best of their opportunities. She would often say if Papa were here he would love these grandchildren. She loved Long Island her birthplace she would call home. She was a family historian and could connect easily people living with those gone before. If you wanted to know your family, you would call Aunt Thelma. She had the answers. Her bond with her siblings was undeniable. I have learnt the value and importance of loyalty and allegiance observing the way she nurtured lasting relationships with all her siblings. Through the changing scenes of life Aunt Thelma was constant leader and her life was filled with consistency of purpose. Family Faith and Finance were the hallmark of her existence Aunt Thelma we are going to miss you. We have been missing that potato bread wrapped in foil a Gibson delicacy. You never gave out the recipe Aunt Thelma. Rest peacefully Aunt Thelma. You have run your race with grace and love. Your spirit will remain in our hearts forever.

With all our love, Dwayne, Kim, Kaurin, Kendall and Daylen

A TRIBUTE TO AUNT THELMA GIBSON-PINDER

Fond memories of Aunt Thelma going up I vividly remember taking us to the movies as children, one movie in particular was “Superman”.

She was stern but loving and caring. When I began my teaching career in 1989 my wardrobe for school came from her. She was a stylist lady and kept up to date with the current trends in fashion. Loved that about her.

She would always share her feelings in things, and she loved seeing young people married in love and understanding their differences.

When I graduated with my master’s degree from North Carolina University she travelled with my family to share in my accomplishments. I know she would be proud of me now going back to what I love teaching Music.

I am so glad when I visited in July of this year I got to see and spend a little time with you. You were not verbal, but you did acknowledge that I was there.

Memories I will always cherish, an enthusiast for exercise and keeping fit. You would always say if can do it so can you. When caring for my mother in 2014 she challenged me to come and workout with her and that I enjoyed and she pushed me to continue.

A straight shooter and a health enthusiast. May she rest in peace will always remember the advice you shared with me from time to time.

Your niece, Patrice Bowleg-Hall
