From the Editor
October has a way of reminding us that strength can wear many shades of pink.
Each year, our All Pink Issue honors the women who have faced breast cancer with unshakable courage. They are the ones who have turned pain into purpose, fear into faith, and diagnosis into determination. This year, we share the stories of incredible survivors who continue to redefine what resilience looks like. Among them is a remarkable mom, leader, and survivor whose journey with You Night began during her own walk through breast cancer. Today, she gives back by helping other women find healing and hope through the same community that once supported her.
We also highlight the women shaping the future of health and beauty on the Northshore, from providers transforming the way we care for our bodies to those helping us feel more confident in our own skin. True beauty is not about perfection. It is about the power that comes from within and the courage to keep showing up each day.
To every woman who has ever faced the unthinkable and found a way forward, this issue is for you. May these pages remind you that your story matters, your voice inspires, and your strength shines brighter than pink.

EVERSGERD Dr. Daniela
For Dr. Daniela Eversgerd, dentistry was never just a job—it was a calling. Inspired by her mother, a dentist, she grew up watching lives transform through care, connection, and confidence. “My mom is my inspiration,” she says. “I always saw how much she loved her work and the impact she had on people’s lives.”
Today, Dr. Eversgerd carries that legacy forward at Allure Dental in Louisiana. Known for her passion, precision, and purpose, she leads with a commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong learning.
“My motto is never stop learning. I take over 200 hours of continuing education each year,” she says. She also teaches a hands-on veneer and smile makeover course to dentists from across the country and mentors others in business and clinical practice.
Even outside the treatment room, her work is changing lives. Each year, she hosts a Smile Makeover Giveaway, gifting eight veneers to someone in her community. Past recipients have gone on to launch businesses and regain self-confidence. “That’s the most rewarding thing I do,” she shares.
At home, she credits her team, her husband, and her three children for keeping her grounded. Whether it’s family dinners, kids’ activities, or time for yoga, she makes space for what matters most.
Her advice to aspiring women in business? “Find a mentor early. Someone who is doing what you want to do.”
Dr. Eversgerd is more than a dentist. She is a leader, a teacher, and someone who truly changes lives— one smile at a time.

Northlake Gastroenterology Associates Welcomes LARA BOUDREAUX, M.D.
“Every patient brings a story. My job is to understand that story and help people feel heard, understood, and supported in building a treatment plan that fits their life.”

Northlake Gastroenterology Associates is proud to welcome Dr. Lara Boudreaux, a Louisiana native with a passion for patient-centered care, to its Covington clinic. Beginning in July 2025, Dr. Boudreaux will start seeing patients and sharing her expertise with the Northshore community.
Born and raised in St. Amant, Dr. Boudreaux has always carried a strong sense of home. She earned her undergraduate degree from LSU, where she was an active member of Chi Omega, before pursuing her medical training entirely within the LSU system. Her journey included medical school in Shreveport, an internal medicine residency in New Orleans, and a gastroenterology fellowship at LSU New Orleans, where she also served as chief fellow. This full-circle experience speaks to both her dedication to the state and her deep ties to Louisiana’s healthcare community.
Dr. Boudreaux specializes in a wide range of gastroenterology services, from colon cancer screening and women’s digestive health to the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and non-surgical hemorrhoid care. She approaches each case with a philosophy rooted in empathy. “Every patient brings a story,” she shares. “My job is to understand that story and help people feel heard, understood, and supported in building a treatment plan that fits their life.”
Outside of her professional role, Dr. Boudreaux is a wife and mother to two young children, Ryan (3) and Rhodes (1). She and her husband Logan are excited to make Covington their home, spending weekends on the water with their kids or in the stands cheering on the LSU Tigers.
With her clinical expertise, approachable style, and love for her Louisiana roots, Dr. Boudreaux is ready to serve patients across the Northshore. She looks forward to building lasting relationships with the families who entrust their care to Northlake Gastroenterology Associates.
To learn more about Dr. Boudreaux or to schedule an appointment, call Northlake Gastroenterology Associates or visit our website. New patients are welcome, and referrals are not required for most services.

“Unless someone has walked through cancer themselves, they can’t fully understand. But when you stand beside another woman who has, there’s an instant connection.”
JILL ALLENDER

For Jill Allender, serving as Class Director for You Night is far more than a volunteer role, it is a calling. Jill stepped into the position in 2024, taking on the responsibility of keeping each woman in the program supported and connected. While her duties include sending reminders about rehearsals, photo shoots, or events, Jill sees her role as much deeper than logistics. “It’s also about keeping a pulse on their physical and emotional well-being,” she explains.
Jill’s connection to You Night began in 2021, shortly after her own breast cancer diagnosis. She joined the Spark program and immediately felt the power of its mission to help women reclaim confidence and joy after cancer. Two years later, she walked the runway herself as part of the 2023 class, a transformative experience that inspired her to give back. When the opportunity arose to serve as Class Director, Jill embraced it wholeheartedly. Through creative programs like ScART and Story Crafting, participants turn scars into art, write their journeys into narratives of resilience, and take to the runway in gowns that symbolize triumph. Their stories and portraits are then woven into a keepsake magazine, a testament to their courage. The annual Gala brings it all together in a breathtaking celebration of beauty, strength, and survival. “For many, it’s not just a fashion show, it’s the moment they finally see themselves the way their loved ones always have,” Jill says.

Professionally, Jill has spent 25 years in the insurance industry, but her work with You Night is fully volunteer based. “It’s the joy of my heart,” she shares. What she loves most are the relationships that form within the program. Many women arrive expecting only a fun experience but soon discover deep healing they didn’t know they needed. “Watching that unfold is powerful,” Jill reflects.
The greatest challenge, she admits, is the emotional weight. Jill feels everything deeply, often shedding tears alongside the women she serves. Yet the passion to continue comes from knowing how necessary this program is. “Unless someone has walked through cancer themselves, they can’t fully understand. But when you stand beside another woman who has, there’s an instant connection.”
Jill brings her heart, her empathy, and her strong organizational skills to You Night. She is committed to creating a safe, uplifting space where every woman feels seen and celebrated.
A resident of Mandeville for nearly 16 years, Jill loves the sense of community, the culture, and the food. She has been married for 14 years and is the proud mom of a nearly 12 year old son. Whether reading, cooking, or cheering at his games, Jill finds joy in family, friendships, and faith. Along with You Night, she is also involved with First Baptist Covington, continuing her mission to give back to the community she calls home.

BYERS BECKMAN Idun-Cara Kelli
Idun-Cara Byers’ breast cancer journey is a story of courage, love, and unshakable hope. When faced with her diagnosis, she drew strength from the people closest to her—her husband, her daughter, and the circle of family and friends who refused to let her walk alone. On the darkest days, she held on to the thought of her daughter watching her fight, wanting to show her that true strength is not in never falling, but in rising again every time you do.
What inspired Idun-Cara most was her own body. She discovered a resilience within herself that she had never fully recognized before. Day after day, through exhaustion, pain, and uncertainty, her body carried her forward. Even battered and weary, it never gave up, and neither did she.
Cancer changed her perspective forever. It stripped away the noise and reminded her that life’s true treasures are connection, laughter, health, and the gift of being present. Every day now feels sacred, and she chooses to live it fully.
Her message to others is clear: breast cancer is not a death sentence. With hope, the right team, and faith in your own strength, you can face it one day at a time and come out stronger than you ever imagined.

When Kelli Beckman was diagnosed with breast cancer, her first thought was of her four young sons. Her youngest was just a year old, and she knew she had to give everything she had to make sure they grew up knowing their mother fought for them. “I wanted them to see me overcome this adversity,” she says. With her deep faith in God and her love for her boys as her anchor, Kelli found the courage to face even the hardest days.
What surprised her most along the way was the kindness of strangers. Beyond the support of family and friends, she was overwhelmed by people she did not know who reached out with cards, prayers, or encouraging words in passing. Those small acts of compassion became powerful reminders that she was not alone.
Now living with stage 4 cancer, Kelli treasures the moments most people overlook. She praises God each morning for the gift of another day and chooses to find gratitude even on the difficult ones. Her encouragement to others is to feel every emotion, anger, fear, sadness, but not to stay there. Process it, release it, and then take the next step. Above all, she reminds others to trust God, for the battle is already won.

SEICSHNAYDRE Alicia
Alicia Seicshnaydre’s breast cancer journey is one of faith, love, and unshakable courage. When fear tried to take over, she leaned on her faith, reminding herself that God was with her every step of the way. Prayer became her anchor, carrying her through the hardest days and giving her peace when nothing else could. Her husband Craig and their children were constant sources of strength, surrounding her with love and encouragement that gave her the courage to keep moving forward even when the road felt overwhelming.
Her inspiration came daily from her family, who stood strong beside her, and from the stories of other survivors who had faced the same storm and made it through. Their courage gave her hope, reminding her she was not alone in this battle.
Cancer shifted Alicia’s perspective on life, teaching her to slow down, live intentionally, and be fully present with the people she loves. Each moment of joy, whether a kind word, a text from a friend, or even a stranger’s compliment on her hair, became a reminder that God saw her, loved her, and was walking with her.
Her message is simple yet powerful: you do not have to walk this path alone. Take it one day at a time, lean on your faith, let others support you, and hold on to the truth that healing and hope are always possible.

MEYERS TURNERKimberly
Kimberly Meyers Turner’s story is a testimony of faith, resilience, and love renewed. From the very beginning of her diagnosis, she leaned on Jesus, trusting in His promise to never leave or forsake her. On her hardest days, she found strength in His presence, peace in His Word, and courage in His love.
God also placed someone special in her life. Before her diagnosis, Kimberly met Richard through an outdoors group. Just months later, she was diagnosed with HER2 triple negative metastatic breast cancer. Fearing he had already endured too much loss caring for his former partner through cancer, she told him to walk away. But Richard refused. “You can’t make my choices for me,” he said. “I’m going through every bit of this with you.” He quit his job, camped nearby, and sat beside her through every chemotherapy session. In the middle of hardship, love blossomed. In December she rang the bell to mark the end of chemo. By February, they were married.
Kimberly once prayed for her life to end after losing her husband of 38 years. Now she prays to live, filled with joy, hope, and purpose. Every day she sees as a gift from God, an opportunity to encourage others, love deeply, and share her faith. Her words of encouragement are clear. You are not alone. Jesus is with you, and His love will carry you through.

WALKER Verazonda BURNS Kathy
Kathy Burns’ breast cancer journey is one marked by faith, resilience, and the steady love of her community. In the beginning, the whirlwind of phone calls, appointments, and decisions left her feeling overwhelmed. As a teacher, she juggled caring for her students while carrying the weight of her diagnosis. Then one day, she realized she needed to pause and truly process what was happening. In that moment, she surrendered her fears to God and felt His peace begin to settle over her. From then on, she saw Him answer prayers, provide guidance, and send the right people at the right time.
Her strength came from knowing she could not give up. Too many people depended on her, her students, coworkers, family, and friends. With each step, she chose to keep moving forward, one moment and one day at a time. She discovered her loved ones showing up for her in extraordinary ways, deepening her gratitude and reminding her she was never alone.
Kathy’s encouragement to others is to take time to process and understand, to rest when needed, and to advocate for yourself. Most of all, she believes in finding joy along the way, in sunshine, laughter, and small moments of peace that remind you life is still beautiful. Romans 8:28, my life verse, helping me keep my eyes on Jesus and the bigger picture.

For Verazonda Walker, the strength to face breast cancer, even on the hardest days, comes from one undeniable truth: her children need her. “No one will be able to raise them better than I can,” she says. “Even when they don’t like my decisions, I always do what is best for them.” Her faith in God reminds her that she still has work to do, and that her children must always come first, above the cancer.
During treatment and recovery, Verazonda found unexpected inspiration in the people who quietly followed her journey. Friends and strangers alike reached out to tell her that her fight gave them courage for their own. “They are the reason I have no choice but to keep going, even when I feel like giving up,” she shares.
Her experience has completely changed her perspective. A second diagnosis shifted her priorities away from putting work before everything else. Now she is learning to live differently by choosing joy, pursuing what makes her happy, and finally putting herself first after 40 years.
Through it all, hope remains. She dreams of seeing her children graduate, go to college, marry, and one day start families of their own. Her encouragement for others is simple yet profound: “Do not wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain.”

At 37 years old, Mercy Jones carries a story of courage, love, and resilience that inspires everyone who meets her. She is a licensed massage therapist, a passionate cancer advocate, a keynote speaker, and a franchise business consultant. Yet the role that means the most to her is being a wife to Blane and mother to their son, Chester Remington.
Mercy is the proud owner of The Merciful Hands Massage Therapy, with locations in Gonzales and Mandeville. Her practice serves the general public, but her heart lies in providing compassionate care for those in hospice and palliative treatment. For Mercy, each client who walks through her doors deserves comfort, healing, and dignity. Her business is more than a service. It is a calling born from her own journey through pain and perseverance.
Mercy Jones SUPER MOM

Her love story with Blane began after her first cancer battle. They connected instantly through their shared love of Game of Thrones, weaving that bond into their vows when they married. What started as long-distance visits became a life built together in Louisiana, where Mercy followed her heart and left behind the corporate world. Their story was tested in 2020 when Mercy’s cancer returned. Before beginning treatment, the couple worked with the Fertility Institute of New Orleans to preserve embryos, making sacrifices and facing the unknown together.
Through months of chemo, nights of bone pain, and the uncertainty of what lay ahead, Blane never left her side. He proposed at the beach while she was still in treatment. She celebrated her bridal shower with radiation stickers still on her body. On October 9 she completed her final radiation treatment. Just four days later, Mercy and Blane eloped in the Redwood National Forest, her scars still visible, a reminder of the fight she had already won. Their wedding photos immortalize her battle and the beauty of choosing love in the face of hardship.

In 2021, Mercy and Blane pursued IVF, and after heartbreak and hope, they welcomed their son, Chester. Becoming a mother gave Mercy renewed purpose. She became a fierce advocate for young cancer patients who deserve the chance at parenthood. She shared her story with lawmakers, stood in front of Congress, and in July 2023 stood beside the governor of Louisiana as he signed fertility preservation coverage for cancer patients into law.
Mercy is proud of many accomplishments, but her greatest triumph is learning to love the skin she is in. She chose to embrace her scars as proof of survival rather than marks to hide. To her son, she is a warrior who shows that no dream is too big and no mountain too steep. Each night, through tribal stories told with shadow puppets, she passes down the traditions of her Afro-Indigenous heritage. She hopes he will remember her strength, her determination, and her pride in where they come from.
Mercy Jones is more than a survivor. She is a mother, a leader, and a living reminder that love, courage, and faith can turn even the hardest battles into a legacy of hope.

WARNER
For Tara Warner, strength wasn’t something she had to search for. It had been quietly building over decades. As an oncology nurse of nearly 30 years, she had spent her career encouraging others through some of their hardest battles. When it became her turn, she drew courage from the very people she once treated.
“I’d think of my 80-year-old patient who came in for every treatment, dragging himself in but never giving up. If he could do it, then I could too,” she recalls. “Five, four, three, two, one, get up and go.”
Her husband became her anchor throughout treatment. “He was by my side with a kind word, a hug, a kiss. Even when my hair started to fall out, he made me feel okay. No stress, just love,” Tara shares.
Now she views life through a softer, slower lens. “Live. Love. Laugh. You have to breathe,” she says. “Enjoy every day. Don’t stress. Sing out loud. Feel the beauty around you.” Whether it’s sitting in her garden surrounded by flowers and butterflies or feeling the peace of the beach, Tara finds daily reminders that life is meant to be lived fully.
Her advice to others: “You can do anything. Take it day by day and let others care for you.”

FRERET Dawn
Dawn Freret’s story is one of strength in the face of unimaginable challenges. Diagnosed with breast cancer in February, her treatment was delayed when she also learned she had congestive heart failure. At only 49, active and with no symptoms, the news was a shock to everyone, including her doctors. After six months of medication, she was finally cleared to begin treatment. Following her recent visit with Dr. Saux, her oncologist, Dawn learned that the next step in her journey will be chemotherapy, followed by radiation.
While facing two diagnoses at once, she has leaned on her faith, her inner resilience, and an incredible support system that continues to surround her with love through prayers, meals, fundraisers, and constant encouragement. Her greatest inspiration comes from the women of her You Night She Rose class of 2025 and the survivors who came before her. She especially carries the memory of Elise Angelette, whose grace, joy, and strength continue to guide her.
Through it all, Dawn has found gratitude even in hardship. She treasures the “glimmers” that remind her to keep going, whether it’s a kind note, a dance with friends, clear test results, or answered prayers. Her message is simple: look for the glimmers. Hope is always there.

BICKHAM Catrina
For Catrina Bickham, strength began with faith. In the moments when fear felt overwhelming, she found peace in prayer and the comforting presence of God. Her children also gave her purpose. Their smiles, their laughter, and their love reminded her daily why she had to keep going. “My journey wasn’t just about me,” she says. “It was about being there for them and showing them what true strength looks like.”
Throughout treatment, her children remained her greatest inspiration. Their unwavering love, paired with her own vision for the life she wanted to build, gave her the motivation to persevere. She held on to the future she was creating and the person she was becoming.
Catrina’s journey changed how she sees life. It taught her to give grace to herself and others, to slow down, and to live with intention. “Cancer forced me to be still and to see what really mattered,” she reflects.
Her advice for others is rooted in faith and hope. “You are stronger than you know. Trust God’s plan and believe that He will carry you through. Advocate for yourself, be patient, and remember you are never alone. He is with you every step of the way.”

CHEEK Kati
When Kati Cheek was diagnosed with breast cancer, life didn’t pause. She was building a business and kept working through treatment. “Sometimes, as women, we wake up knowing we just have to keep moving forward,” she says. Even on the hardest days, her strength came from unfinished purpose and family. Her husband’s steady smile and her children’s laughter reminded her that there was still so much to live for.
She found inspiration in her mother-in-law, a survivor who taught her that every emotion, from fear to anger to sadness, was valid, and in the women she met through online cancer groups who reminded her that strength multiplies when it’s shared. Their stories gave her courage to face each new stage with determination.
Cancer changed Kati’s outlook completely. It taught her to slow down, savor moments, and see time as her most valuable gift. She now travels often, sometimes solo, embracing life with gratitude and curiosity. “I learned to love better, listen more deeply, and create space only for what matters,” she shares.
To anyone just beginning the journey, Kati offers this: “You are stronger than you realize. Cancer may shape your story, but it will never define you. Keep moving forward, there’s joy waiting on the other side.”

As a medical professional and mother of two, she’s proudest of how she manages to hold space for both—delivering excellent care to her patients while being present for her young children. “Women don’t get enough credit for managing both the demands of work and the warmth of family life,” she says. From early mornings to patient visits, and ending the day with bedtime routines, she shows up with intention in every role.
Her path to audiology was inspired by her grandfather, a WWII veteran who experienced significant hearing loss. When he passed during her first college audiology course, it felt like

more than coincidence. “It was a sign,” she says. That moment became the foundation for a career built on compassion, education, and trust.
Dr. Baldwin-McSwain hopes to be remembered not only for her clinical skill, but for her ability to educate and empower. Whether treating complex hearing loss or guiding someone through unfamiliar information, she meets patients where they are—with care and clarity.
She’s also excited about emerging innovations like Auracast, which promises a more inclusive future for hearing aid users. It’s one more way she’s helping move the field forward.

Direct FROM THE GROWERto You

The idea for Garden Spot of Mandeville began decades ago when Judy King started growing ferns in greenhouses on her property, in Bush, Louisiana. Ferns take a while to grow to a size in which they are sellable and so Tommy, King’s husband, started growing vegetables to sell since they are faster and smaller. It was at this time he realized the potential of growing annuals and perennials and selling them to friends.
Word began to spread and people from all over started coming to the greenhouses in search of beautiful plants. They eventually had the idea to open The Garden Spot of Franklinton, an outdoor store created to sell locally grown, quality plants. The store became very popular, enticing people from all over and so the King’s decided to open a store in Mandeville to reach a larger audience.
Thus Garden Spot of Mandeville was born and today both locations are run by Tommy and Judy’s daughter, Sandy, and her husband Tony. Just as they started, annuals and perennials are still grown at the local greenhouses and both locations continue to serve their communities well with high quality, locally grown plant materials and expert customer service.
Garden Spot of Mandeville is a family-owned retail garden center, offering customers a wide selection of high-quality products. Our annuals and perennials are grown at our nursery located in Bush, Louisiana, and our shrubs and trees are sourced from local nurseries so you can rest assured that your plants are coming directly from the grower to you.

TRICIA + BENJAMIN

For Tricia Lopez Ayllon, love has always felt a little like magic, the kind that is written in the stars and sealed with faith, creativity, and courage. When she met Benjamin Muñiz Matlack, she knew her story was about to become something extraordinary.
Photos by Josh Williams Photography

fter dating for two and a half years, Benjamin proposed in a way that could have been pulled straight from a fairytale. It happened on May 1, 2024, at the close of a show Tricia produced and performed in called The Clouet Gardens Circus Show in the Bywater. “I knew something was up,” she laughs. “He wanted to buy champagne, and he never drinks champagne. Then I noticed he was nervous, and he’s never nervous for shows.”
As the final song played, Benjamin pulled a small box from his bag while the audience began filming. “I was so nervous I could barely keep dancing,” Tricia recalls. “He cut the song short and proposed. It was magical.”
The couple wed on May 17, 2025, at the enchanting Derbes Mansion, where the entire bridal party stayed together for three nights. Their wedding theme, Storybook Garden, brought their shared creativity and love of fantasy to life. Inspired by the 2024 Met Gala’s Sleeping Beauties theme and The Lord of the Rings, guests were invited to dress in Elegant Fantastical Attire.
Pastel hues of pink, orange, blue, green, and yellow filled the gardens, each bridesmaid wearing a unique color and headpiece. Tricia looked every bit the fairytale bride in an off the shoulder gown inspired by Swan Lake, complete with a sheer corset bodice and delicate lace embellishments. Benjamin wore an Italian blue suit while his groomsmen showed their personalities through creative attire choices.

As a professional dancer and circus artist, Tricia wanted every detail to feel theatrical and otherworldly. Harpists wore elf ears, the officiant read from a hollow antique book, and guests dined at a long serpentine table covered in moss, lanterns, strawberries, and vintage storybooks. Even the food shimmered with edible glitter, gold dust, and caviar.
Their first dance was unforgettable. Benjamin, a professional trumpet player, performed an original song he wrote for Tricia while she danced en pointe around him, a breathtaking symbol of their harmony.
The night ended with New Orleans traditions, a lively second line with Big Fun, the band Benjamin once played in, and a sparkling send off beneath a canopy of lights.
“It truly was a dream come to life,” Tricia says. “Our own fairytale, written exactly how we imagined it.”
