The leaves are falling, the after-party s’mores and hot cocoa bar is calling, and the tent canopy of twinkly lights and bright florals is enthralling. Wedding season is finally cooling down, bringing with it both whispers of optimism and celebration, and nervous, bittersweet excitement that comes with seasons of change, both for us and for you.
We raised our glasses to longtime editor for New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE Barbara Coles this summer, wishing her the best as she transitions into a welldeserved season of retirement. Consider this my speech, albeit brief (to keep my mascara intact), thanking her for her guidance and tutelage, and for leaving a particularly special pair of lace Bella Belle wedges behind to fill.
I’ve been in love with this industry since I was old enough to make collages out of old wedding magazines and watch “Say Yes to the Dress” (almost) as much as I watched “Pride and Prejudice,” and I fell in love with it even more when I started working on this publication five years ago. I couldn’t be more delighted to help you plan your dream day, and connect you with an all-star team of talented local vendors to make it happen. Life has many seasons—this one’s yours.
Amid the vibrancy of color and life that bursts through the pages of this Fall/ Winter issue, you’ll find an abundance of ideas and inspiration for the coming season from “Things We Love” on page 18 and a collection of Real New Hampshire Weddings starting on page 22. A mountain-view farm filled with pickable blueberries, raspberries, wildflowers, tradition and more awaits you in “Farm Fairy Tale” on page 32. If you’re looking for a creative dose of macrame décor, custommade jewelry, a muted rainbow cake and a whole bunch of fringe, check out the magic in the “Boho Beauty” styled shoot on page 42.
Whatever change this season may bring, we hope these pages will be an encouraging, grounding guide, offering you plenty of inspiration and a moment of peace to relax amidst the whirlwind of transition and planning.
Until next time …

FAVORITE MOMENT FOR JORDAN: When we snuck off to the ceremony site to take a moment away from everyone, to enjoy the beautiful day, the flower arbor and just enjoy being with each other.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: When the DJ announced just one more dance for Sarah with her grandfather. He walked to the dancefloor without even using his cane and danced the whole song through.

PIECE OF ADVICE: Things will go wrong, the unexpected will happen, and it will all still be okay.

The Details
THE WEDDING DAY IN A WORD: Cozy
FAVORITE MOMENT FOR CHRISTIE:
I was able to watch Cayce get ready through the trees as the sun started to rise. I couldn’t wait for the sun to peek out a bit more so we could say our vows and finally be married, but I will cherish that memory of watching him get dressed and ready.
FAVORITE MOMENT FOR CAYCE: Our first look. Seeing Christie standing
there in her beautiful dress, the warm light of the sunrise on her face, the cold morning breeze of Middle Sugarloaf in her hair — it all felt like a dream.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: How quickly we summited the mountain at 4 a.m. It’s normally a 60 minute hike and we summited in around 45 minutes — we were ready to get married!
IF YOU COULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN: Bring some additional wind-resistant
layers for the bride and warm beverages to enjoy the summit even longer.
PIECE OF ADVICE: Roll up your suit and wedding dress in a bed sheet and tuck it in your backpack for the hike up. We couldn’t believe how perfectly everything unfolded at the summit.

A late summer night’s dream
A mountain-view farm filled with pickable blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries, currants, wildflowers, and some goat and donkey friends—what could possibly be missing from this New England dream? Enter a joyful couple and the people they cherish the most. Monadnock Berry Farm makes for a picturesque venue, rich with history and tradition. Here, each vendor was selected with a “shop small, shop local” mindset, says After All Floral owners Angela Nitschke and Demelza Levick, who grew up working together on the farm.
Written by: Anna-Kate Munsey
Creative direction and design: Grandest Gatherings
Photography: Annie Elizabeth Photography
Florals were a focal point of the entire affair, highlighting the late summer bounty with mountain views to complete this Granite State vision. Late summer hydrangeas accented the minibar area, and garden roses accompanied the tapas spread. While soft pink, lilac and peach pastels were the main feature,
the arbor florals were a bit more subdued, focused on the lush greenery. The bride’s bouquet features locally grown flowers, as well as many foraged from the fields. Varieties such as hydrangea, roses, cosmos and lisianthus were complemented by blueberry branches from the farm.
Stunning custom watercolors highlight the charm of a Monadnock Berries wedding, with the family car custom envelope seal as the perfect old-school touch. The result was a suite that was “romantic, elegant and sophisticated,” according to Celeste Simpson of Impress Me Designs. The floral stamps were sourced to match the suite and added to the antique charm. In addition to the invitations, a bright custom watercolor scene of the on-site farmhouse decorated the otherwise simple place setting menus.
“The watercolor palette drew from nature, as it was early autumn—just when New England begins to unveil its glory. Think sky blue, berry purple and lots of earthiness,” said photographer Annie Simmons of Annie Elizabeth Photography.
This vintage cream gown complements the beauty of the bride and the day. The We Thieves dress is a 1980s Betsey Johnson piece that features intricate lace detailing, an overlay at the waist and scalloped bottom. Hair and makeup were the vision of Jenna McElroy, owner of Makeup by Jenna. She created a soft look inspired by berries to compliment the model’s blue eyes, with a finished look that was clean and fresh. The look is completed with a half-up hairstyle and brown heeled sandals from Adelante Shoes, a shop specializing in custom, ethically made goods and working to promote economic development in Latin America.
The groom’s attire is mostly the work of Drinkwater’s in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Classic leather with black and brass detailing complement the groom’s belt and shoes from Adelante Shoes. The star of this look is the 100% Italian woven silk Dion tie, handmade in Toronto. With hues of crisp blue and fresh green, this floral piece reflects the magic of the berry farm. The groom’s wedding band, also from Ore Jewelry, is an understated complement featuring hammered 18k recycled grey gold.
The romantic vibe mixed with New England charm is reflected in the simple but stunning jewelry as well. Each piece is from Sophie Hughes’ Ore Jewelry, a Boston-based brand focused on sustainability, design and craftsmanship. The bride’s earrings are composed of a string of freshwater pearls, the perfect complement to her custom tulip bezel knife-edge diamond solitaire engagement ring and curved diamond band. All of the bride’s jewelry is set in 18k recycled yellow gold.
The bride and groom are seen cheers-ing at a tasteful, light-filled table with their small circle of loved ones. Rows of bistro string lights illuminate their smiles, and warm light contributes to the feeling of comfort and bliss. They sipped wine and dined on small bites. “It only makes sense that getting married at the berry farm is a dream come true. In their own words, Monadnock Berries tends to ‘enchant those who see it,’” said Simmons. The meal, she explained, “began in the gloaming and stretched into the hours of the night.”
The couple opted for a simple, family-style farm-to-table meal. Mouthwatering smallplate style tapas and charcuterie, courtesy of Machina Arts Kitchen, was the chosen nosh. Dishes like grilled peaches, pea shoot salad and roasted butternut squash crostini led to the sweet finale of assorted truffles and pastries.
An abundance of florals in sweet pinks, bold reds and simple whites span the center of the table, combined with delicate glassware and napkins from Petals and Plates and linens from The Snassy Crafter. Candles placed throughout were dual purpose, as they highlighted both the florals and animated conversation among guests. Place settings featured gauzy white napkins and gold flatware. Add another burst of blue with the wine goblets, and the tablescape became the perfect reflection of the entire day’s theme.
Just in case the bride was missing a “something blue,” this baby blue, vintage, transcontinental family car was the perfect touch. While Monadnock Berries offers a variety of décor pieces, this might be the most adorable of them all. The car, named “Riley,” was decorated with homemade berry tin cans adorned with the farm’s original logo, adding another touch of old charm to the day.
Monadnock Berries is a secondgeneration family farm. Farmer Anthony and family moved from England to the states in 1995, and the rest was history. His son Oliver and his partner Elise recently took over the farm, allowing Anthony and his wife, Fenella, a welldeserved retirement. Their thriving family farm plays host to more than just a natural bounty. “We really wanted to inspire couples that you can take a more traditional farm setting and add upscale details with a vintage flair,” said Danielle Rand from Grandest Gatherings.

Classic
details with a modern twist
Inspiration can come from anywhere—a favorite color, a childhood memory, a feeling or a dream. In the case of this portrait-focused styled shoot, the inspiration was the dress. Add in creative florals and macrame décor, custom-made jewelry, a muted rainbow cake and a whole bunch of fringe, and you’ll end up experiencing the undeniable magic of this shoot—and a dose of inspiration for yourself.
Written by: Anna-Kate Munsey
Creative direction and design: Lotus Floral Designs
Photography: Hanna Caroline Photography
Texture, neutrals and a fun dose of fringe were at the heart of the florals for this styled shoot, directed by Mary Trombley, owner and artist at Lotus Floral Designs. The bride’s bouquet was “big and beautiful with tons of texture,” says Trombley. It featured complementary neutral tones, including bleached ferns, dried palms and bunny tail and locally harvested grasses. The rest of the
florals featured a bit more color. The show-stopping chandelier, which Trombley said she wanted to be “romantic and a little different,” featured painted pink millet, moody grasses and dried eucalyptus. While florals are a bridal staple, macrame (seen in the chandelier) was definitely a more unique aspect of this shoot. Each macrame element was handmade by Marissa at Rissa Bee.
While a large portion of the shoot utilized muted, warm colors and exuded a feeling of comfort, the invitation suite used bold shapes and sharp lines.
Celeste Simpson of Impress Me Designs shared the vision for a combination of geometric streamline and watercolor florals. The result was a “boho, modern and chic” look reflecting a mid-century modern concept. Hand-watercolor details make up a floral liner that adds a soft touch to the striking invitation.
Intricate detailing is the star of this Rue De Seine gown, called “Zorah.” This high neck, off-theshoulder piece utilizes tassels, triangular shapes and cutouts, complete with its crisp white color. It adds to the bride’s powerful, strong look while also allowing the rest of the creative scene to shine.
One of the most unique elements of this inspiration shoot is seen in the jewelry. Gone are traditional silvers and golds or shiny gems. By Liz O’Toole of Amethyst Angels, each piece is custom-made by hand and many feature raw, locally sourced stones. A turquoise crystal ring, bronzed beaded wrap bracelet, and feathered, over-the-ear earrings are on display, prominent against the clean white gown.
The boho décor is echoed throughout the tablescape as well, done by Events Delivered. Wicker charger mats are paired with plates in pink and white, and peach and beige tied napkins. Peachy pink-adorned flatware and glass cups complete each setting. The table is full of varied size candles in autumnal reds and warms. Baby pink roses are featured throughout as well.
Here, baby’s breath and fringe— two accents one may not expect to see together—are the perfect complements to each other, and even more so to the bride at the center of it all. Under her, a simple, natural-looking jute rug lays flat. Her seat reflects a similar style, with black detailing and an earthy feel. She seems to float among the florals and fringe.
At some point in the night, all eyes will be on the sweetheart table. Because of this, it is a wonderful way for the couple to express themselves, their style and the life they are building. The star of this table is the baby’s breath “wave” in light pinks and whites. Bold, burnt red velvet chairs contrast the soft florals, and ties together the abstract backdrop and candle-filled tablescape.
Photographer Hanna Caroline showcased the shoot from many angles, creating a masterpiece out of each element. The result is a profoundly beautiful and unique bridal experience.
Rainbows and flowers, but make them sophisticated and artistic. This ombre cake from Autumn Nomad emulated the colors and creativity of the whole shoot. Simple white piping allows the decorative elements to shine. Inside is even more spectacular, with layers of rich red, warm oranges and simple beige and white. Pale oranges, pinks and yellows comprise the rainbow, which trails down the layers of the all-white fondant. The goal was to “make it look like the rainbow is dripping down the cake,” owner Jaime Melfi says.
In order to bring out the ombre tones in the cake, Trombley used a focal terracotta wooden flower, accented by white ferns, millet, seed pods, dyed pink ruscus, and natural mauve-dyed bunny tail.
The makeup was the artistry of Katherine MacDonald of KMac Beauty. The inspiration came from wanting to illuminate the bride’s skin to create a “clean makeup look concentrating on the contour of her features and glow of her skin,” she says. Utilizing both nude tones and metal-toned color pops such as copper, bronze, golds and burnt orange, the makeup look emulated both the feelings and colors of the shoot.
